Post Giselle Taylor - Overcompensating for Disadvantage
Here's the student idea I talked about (as Whisperer). I'm not sure how much I'll play her, and I don't really have any pics for visual reference, so I decided to fold her in under this account.

Name: Giselle ('Elle') Taylor.

Age: 18.

Place of Birth: Portland, Oregon, USA.

Nationality: American.

Hair Color: Dark brown with sandy blond streaks; shoulder length.

Eye Color: Golden brown.

Ethnicity: English/French.

Skin Tone: Pale with a smattering of freckles.

Pubic Hair: Natural.

Distinguishing features: Thick and curvy; often wears a veil to obscure her sightless eyes.

Height: 5ft 5in.

Weight: 158lbs.

Bust: 44in. Cup Size: D.

Waist: 30in.

Hips: 42in.

Sexuality: She really hasn't thought much about it. Her solitary nature made inimate relations unlikely, and she really hasn't felt the urge to explore it on her own. Consequently she is still a virgin.

Piercings or Tattoos: None.

Language: English/Braille.

Psychological Profile: Despite her hard early life and the rapid loss of her parents, Elle is suprisingly stable. She is certainly in mourning and grieving (in her own way), but she has not yet succumbed to depression. Throughout her life, Elle has frequently been on her own and felt the need to prove her own worth. Deterrmined not to be a burden to her parents, she did her best to become self-sufficient. Thus, their sudden loss, though painful is not quite as debilitatng as one might suppose. In addition, Elle's strategy of focusing on self-improvement has been particularly successful, giving her ample reason to be proud of herself and feel her parents would be proud. Still, she is a solitary individual who finds crowds unpleasant and small talk a pointless waste of time. Ironically, there's probably still a lonely little girl looking for a friend somewhere buried in her psyche.

Personality: Quiet and reserved; She's not really all that shy, she just doesn't like to waste words. She's very independent, but not afraid to ask for help if she really needs it, she just always tries to do things for herself first.

Likes: Quiet, reading, learning

Activities: Reading, studying, Tai Chi

Background: The only child of a lower-class family, Giselle had a rough childhood. Born with Optic nerve hypoplasia (ONH) - a condition in which the optic nerve is malformed - she is completely blind. She also suffers from mild hypothryroidism, which caused developmental delays early on. Still, she was relatively lucky, escaping the more profound malformations of the brain and cognitive disabilities sometimes associated with ONH. Even so, she had to take a couple years's worth of remedial classes until she 'caught up' with her peers.

The 'stupid blind girl' was seldom included in playground games and often picked on, so she retreated into her own mind. She turned to her studies and to books (braille and audio) for purpose and company. Soon she began to excel. What nature had taken, dilligence and focus made up for. Eventually she began to outpace the others; little socialization left more time for intellectual pursuits. The 'stupid blind girl' grew to become an undenialble, if quiet, mental powerhouse. From one extreme to the other, Giselle remained apart from her peers.

Though controlled with daily hormone supplement pills, Elle's hypothyroidism also made weight management difficult. Her tendency toward sedentary activity only exascerbated that difficulty. She mitigated her weight gain somewhat by making a study of bodily motion, starting with walking and proper posture. She even taught herself some rudimentary Tai Chi from audio descriptions of the movements. It was during this time that she found she had exceptional spatial-temporal awareness, and soon was able to get around most places without her white cane. She had a knack for feeling proximity to other people or obstacles through a combination of her other senses. Despite her (admittedly mild) exercise routine, Giselle remains overweight; another thing that set her apart from her peers. Still, she's not particularly self-conscious about her weight. Being blind, she's not bombarded by the 'ideal body' images like others are.

Throughout Elle's life, her hardworking parents did their best to provide for their daughter and mitigate her social stigma, but there was little they could do. Between hectic work schedules and heath problems of the their own, they often had to leave Elle to her own devices. It wasn't that they were unloving or avoidably inattentive, just busy; and in the case of her father, terminally ill.

In the fall of Elle's sixteenth year, her father suffered a massive heart attack. During the course of his treatment in ICU, his doctors found he had suffered numerous previous 'cardiac events' that he never mentioned to anyone. He died several weeks later. Elle became somewhat cold and unfeeling after her father died. She never really felt all that sad; and that made her wonder if something was wrong with her. Still, she continued to use her studies as an escape, pushing ever harder. She even managed to skip a grade, graduating a year early!

But tradgedy was not done with Giselle Taylor; shortly before her eighteenth birthday, her overworked and exhausted mother died in a firey car crash. It was in the wake of this event that Elle recieved an invitation to attend a prestigous private school on a full scholarship. Floundering and at a loss, Giselle seized the opportunity like a lifeline and soon found herself on the way to Shokushu campus.

True, but her proximity sense is not that acute: Get more than a few feet away and still won't be able to sense you. It's basically just there so that she can try to run away without immediately crashing into a wall.
