Background: As an orphan Lilyana never had a stable home. Bounced around from place to place she had no friends and had been the easy target of bullies. As a young girl when playing by herself near the stream behind a shrine she had been set upon by a trio of bullies.

She was beaten up a little and when things looked as if they were turning for the worse an innate talent awoke in her as she instinctively controlled tendrils of water that snaked out at the other children scaring them off. As fortune had it Master Genju had been assigned to restore the shrine and had been on hand. Hearing the commotion he looked out the rear window of the shrine and saw what was going on. He approached, taking an interest in the child even going so far as adopting her and enlisting her help in restoring the shrine until disaster struck on her 18th birthday … an accidental fire caused by the candles of the birthday cake lead to the fire that burned down the shrine as odd as that had been and unlucky.

While thankfully no one was hurt a mysterious letter arrived from Shokushu even though she never applied. While the shrine was being rebuilt she went to Shokushu since her education was covered by a scholarship and the new shrine would be waiting after she graduated.
