Growing up, Abby's parents enrolled her in gymnastics from a young age. They pushed for her academic success as well as her popularity within school. She gave in, but not without some compromises of her own. She would join the cheerleading squad if she could dye her hair; she would be allowed to go to concerts providing that she aced an important exam. She was almost a self-taught prodigy of sorts, but once her school career was nearing its end and her parents urged her to continue going to school, she agreed on the condition that SHE pick the school. As it was, the school happened to pick her. Shokushu was offering academics and athletics which enticed her and although her parents (and herself) knew nothing of the school, it was an alternative they could all agree upon.
