“Ah! Good. You’re awake,” Neb said as he stood up. His ancient bones creaked audibly with the effort. His tone was light and cheerful with no hint of malice. Nor of wrongdoing. It was as though the situation was perfectly natural and ordinary.

“Now we can get started,” he continued as he hobbled closer to the helpless young woman. “Your senses should clear presently.” Neb spoke as a doctor might to a befuddled patient.
