At this time in the evening the library was the perfect place to be, if you wanted to be alone with the monsters that haunt you, but no one else.

Only the most diligent students would still be there, and most of the study chambers would be deserted. It was the perfect place for a girl that wanted to escape the horrors of Shokushu, when even the walls of your own chamber seemed to close in on you like a trap. Or at least it seemed so, even if the silence, that was owed to the iron rule of not disturbing those that studied, immersed it with an eerie atmosphere.

It took just a little talent to stay hidden after the call to leave the library came, before one would be locked in and no one would come looking for the night. Of course there were the monsters you brought with you, but those were the ones you knew how to fight.

It was a perfect place to gather a piece of peace.

But also the perfect self deception.

Daphnee had been busy as usual. Between her classes and her duties as a prefect not to mention serving her Mistress she had a rather full plate most of the time. This evening, however, her duties were lighter then they were normally and one of the tasks she had been assigned had been going to the book shelves and pulling off books that were to be rebound due to age.

It was easy work but tedious and her help for the staff was a time saver. She had been given a list of titles and sent off to retrieve them with the push cart she loaded up on books and brought them downstairs via the elevator that ran through the middle of the five floored library.

Shokushu might be a dreadful place but Shokushu had a nice selection of books. The fifth floor was always eerie as there was rarely ever anyone out her. The lights on all the floors save for the bottom two had been on timers to which she set now and went about plucking books from the shelves pausing at a particular book that caught her interest.

“This shouldn't be here,” it was in the wrong section, a book on ventriloquism that she took this moment to flick through.
