Audition: An Original Play(for Christine)
Green=niellwyn
Violet/pink=Christine
It was strange to see a man on campus. He was well dressed in a crisp blue suit, blonde hair sort of touseled, pouty lips pressed onto the butt of a cigarette. Smoking, of all things. His clear eyes slid over her warmly, and he waved. "Hello." He seemed of aryan ancestry, with a clean cut jaw that held his almost femininely pouty lips in an arrogant set, and rather strong, aristocratic cheekbones. A hint of olive in his otherwise fair skin suggested a bit of Italian. Whatever his ancestry, he was in remarkable shape. Any good suit can flatter a male's physique, but the crisp tailoring of his clothing merely accentuated his fine form. He knew it too, judging from his lackadaisical posture and the way his eyes openly roamed over Christine's impressive attributes.
A long drawn-out sigh left the pale pink lips of the student as she heaved herself upwards, out of the tub. Her body, inch by inch, broke away from the frothy surface, the water clinging to her cream-colored skin as she rose. She stood there for a moment allowing the cooling air to brush over her body as the trace amounts of suds slide down her tight naked form before grabbing a towel, wrapping it around herself. She’d made it a habit to always take a nice, relaxing bath before an audition. She found it calmed her, and brought out the best in her. She’d seen the flier a day before, Beowulf always having been a favorite of hers; she decided to see what the student drama council did to revise it, as she recalled the precise words of the flier.
“ Beowulf, an all time classic seeks a leading lady to play the ‘sexy’ Grendel’s mother. An old favorite with a savvy 21st century touch.”
“Whatever.” She muttered to herself pulling the plaid skirt up her slender, long legs and fastening it. “I just want the lead role.” She thought sheepishly, bustling about the room to finish getting dressed. When she’d finally deemed herself suitable for casting, she caught the mirror on her way out the door and gave herself a satisfactory wink, and grabbing her small satchel. She flew down the stairs, her high bun bobbing on top of her head, as well as her large breasts bouncing happily inside of the tight, white blouse as she went.
It was around midday when she’d finally made it to the auditorium doors, her amber eyes scanning the area quickly for any other signs of competition. She found none, but to her surprise she DID find a boy. She paused for a moment in confusion, only his greeting wave to bring her out of her momentary stupor. “Hello…” The word was a soft, melodic tone as always, her lips now plush and glimmering from the lip gloss she’d applied. She drew nearer to him, her eyes now fixated on the more important matter. His cigarette. “You wouldn’t happen to have another one of those…” She said with a sly smile, showing off her pearl-white teeth, shifting the bag that was over her shoulder.
"What? This?" The young man twirled the object of Christine's desire between his finely boned fingertips with one sardonic blonde brow upraised at a maddening angle. "You smoke huh?" His amused, pouting lips curled as he pretended to consider; his chin cradled in two fingers. He took another long drag, opening that teasing mouth and allowing a coiling column of sweet tobacco smoke to slide past his lips and vanish into his nostrils in a flawless French inhalation. A moment longer he teased her, making a great show of enjoying his cigarette, then extended it out to her in a magnanimous gesture. "Sure, have this one. It's barely been smoked." His arm flexed under the blue of his suit, it's crisp cut showing off the lean muscles despite the thick cloth. His other hand delved into a pocket to bring out a package of Marlboro reds, box 100s.
"Hmm, pretty girl like you, a smoker, all dressed up with attitude....trying out for the play I suppose?" he asked, masculinely coy. Liquid blue eyes took Christine in at a glance while he holds out the fragrant, burning cigarette. He took his fill of her in an thinly disguised up and down glance, smirking ambiguously while he sprawled backward against the bench. He shook out his golden mass of hair, making the waves catch the sunlight. "
The man’s actions before her could have easily been mistaken as rude, but Christine knew all too well the satisfaction of toying with one’s addiction. She stood sweetly, quietly as he spoke, responding with simple answers to his questions feigning disinterest, but all the while her eyes followed the cylinder, with wisps of silver rays billowing from it’s tip. She broke away to watch the flawless display of a French inhale, and to take note of the lean muscles that stretched beneath the fabric of his arms as his outstretched hand offered her sanctuary. Slender fingers, with French tip nails gratefully took the offering, her soft fingertips brushing against his for only a moment.
“Going for the lead role.” She said with a smile, taking a long step, turning on her heels to sit gracefully beside him on the bench. The bare skin of her upper thighs coming into view as her skirt was hiked up whilst crossing her legs. She took a deep drag off of the cigarette and closed her eyes, relishing in the moment. Wasn’t her favorite brand of cigarettes, but her father’s shipment was going on three days late. She mused for a moment before tapping him on the knee on what seemed like an accident. Once she was satisfied she had his gaze she took another drag from the cigarette, shaping her lips in that teasing ‘O’ and cocked her jaw a few times, leaving a series of rings in her wake. She smiled again, bringing her free hand up to pull the chop sticks that held her bun in place, letting her lustrous platinum locks fall down to the small of her back. She caught his steel-blue stare, and held it locked onto her honeyed eyes. “You’re not the only one with skill.” She said teasingly, though she still was wary of this stranger. Considering it was an all girl’s school, the sight of an even remotely attractive male was a rarity, and almost always caused a gut-wrenching feeling. “What do you know about the play?” She said casually, taking another hit off of the cigarette, letting her forearm rest on her knee.

The "man" tipped his head back, laughing in a giddy sort of way before he shook his head in mirth and curled over to touch his lighter's small flame to a new cigarette. "I'm the lead role, what do you think?" He continued to smirk at the confident seeming girl, crossing his arms over his broad chest as the slim white cigarette dangled from his lips. Sparks played across his eyes. "I'm running the audition too. Dunno girl, seems like you've come a bit ignorant and unprepared. Maybe you aren't lead role material." He lounged backward, spreading those long arms out with an unconcerned shrug. His eyes closed, and he tilted his head back to take a long drag, allowing a plume of sweet tobacco to slither out from between his lips. "Lot's of other pretty girls out there...what makes you so special?"

She cocked a curious eye brow at his response. A normal girl would have been taken back by the blunt straightforward abrupt rudeness in his demeanor and careless comment, and she was almost insulted, but something just didn’t sit right with the teen. It must have showed, in her face while she took a moment to carefully consider what the man had said. She thumbed the rust colored filter of the cigarette in her fingertips before lightly raising it to her lips and taking in another drag.
“Interesting.” She said after what seemed to be a long moments pause, shifting in her seat letting her smooth leg slide off of the other one. She leaned back against the bench, letting her slender arm rest off the back, her hand dangling with the silver smoke twirling around her fingertips, and wrist. Her blouse had risen with this change of movement, a small portion of her right waist was in view. The top buttons of her blouse were only partially buttoned, an innocent act of carelessness allowed them to fall open given an ample view of her cleavage. She turned to look at him, blowing the smoke out of the corner of her mouth, obviously avoiding blowing it directly into his face. “ Pretty girls don’t always make pretty plays little one,” she mused with a rather condescending and arrogant tone. “They have to be the total package; beauty, brains, and skill.” she added with a faux-bored sigh, her head gently lolling against her upraised shoulder. “Which is why I’m going to be the leading lady.” She smiled, not at him, but rather to herself. She took a moment to observe the man again, while he had his eyes closed. Beautiful features with piercing blue eyes that stayed in her mind long after their gaze had broken. A lean athletic frame was obvious through the crisp blue suit that he wore. She traced the lining of his muscles with her eyes, all the way up to his shapely collarbone, down his gently heaving chest. She had to pull away to avoid looking at his package, neatly concealed in the blue slacks that he wore. Her face turned a bright pink, at even conceiving such a thought, then a moment of shame turned into perversion. She smiled slyly to herself and brought the cigarette to her lips again. ‘It has been a long time…’ She took the moment to steal a quick glance at his beautiful face again. ‘Nothing wrong with a little window shopping.’ Her chest bounced once or twice while she chuckled to herself at her own perversion. He was beautiful yes, but was he a professor? Perhaps the spoiled brat son of one of the headmasters? ‘Aw, who cares.’ She thought sheepishly to herself. ‘Relax, enjoy the view.’
She stared at the cigarette that was now reduced to a filter, hanging by a loose thread from her index and middle finger. Her fingers adjusted the burning cylinder in a fluid motion flicking the remains onto the lawn nearby. With a deep sigh she rose, the fabric of her skirt falling back into a respectable place at her mid-thigh, her arms reached high over her head. The tight muscles of her tummy were in view, contracting with the lewd stretch. She raised onto her tip-toes for a moment, showing off a rather saucy view of her taut bottom through the thin fabric of the skirt before falling back into a comfortable stance. She glanced backwards over her shoulder at the man, "Who are you anyway. This is an all girls school, yet here you are." She tried to yawn non-chalantly, but felt it could have used more work to be convincing.

When the man's eyes opened they seemed nearly as appreciative of her as she had been of him. They noted her "innocent" display with a small widening of his smile. His lighter made a snicking sound like fingernails on rough paper as he drew his thumb over it, summoning up a wavering orange flame. Once touched to hsi cigarette he snapped the metal Zippo shut and took a drag.
"I'm not a boy." he responded with an upraised eyebrow. His lips twitched in amusement. Crossing his legs so that his patent leather shoes shone in the sunlight, he stretched back. "Just another drama student. I jsut happen to be rather talented with costumes and makeup." A certain luridness to his glance makes his eyes seem crafty. "If you do get the lead part, you know who to thank for your costume." Extending one long figner toward the door, he took a heavy puff. "Auditions are in that way. good luck. The name's Adam by the way."

The girl frowned to herself, but decided to ask no more. ‘Stop it, stop it, stop it!’ she commanded herself, her shiny black shoes making a soft clicking noise against the pavement as she made her way to the stairs. The gut-wrenching feeling was overpowering her, silently she soothed it. “The name’s Chris.” She called back over her shoulder, and that was the last she said to the man. He’d said he was a student, that was impossible. If the school had changed their policy, they surely would have informed the students? It didn’t matter, he seemed normal enough and she didn’t sense anything weird about him other than the fact that he seemed a little bit full of himself. Admittedly she kind of liked it. She smiled to herself. “Adam huh.” the words softly fell out of her mouth.
Her slender fingers wrapped around the cold metal of the door, pulling it open, stepping back to avoid hitting herself with it. The sunlight, though past midday was still rather bright and it took her a while to adjust to the dim lighting of the room when she stepped inside. “Hello?” She called.
“Over here.”
Her head turned towards the stage. There was a tall, lean man dressed in a black suit holding a clip board sitting front row, and a pink-haired student on the stage. Obviously she had interrupted an audition. She mouthed and apology and crept her way down the long aisle and took a seat in the third row to watch the student.
“Oh! Grendel my son! How can this be!”
The student shuddered at the high pitched squeal of the student. Surely she had to have been kidding. Her eyes fixated on her painfully fake mannerisms, and the feign tragic look on her face. The girl was beautiful, she had to admit, but jesus this was killing Chris to even listen to. The student shuffled impatiently and uncomfortably in her seat as the audition went on. ‘How is he standing this?’ She wondered, her eyes set on the man who was just casually scratching onto the clip board, never flinching once at the girls performance. ‘I guess he’s head a looot worse.’ she smiled to herself, her eyes returning back to center stage.

"Ack!" The man exclaimed. He stood, banging his forehead into his clipboard in a paroxysm of frustration, spinning around and beginning to gesticulate wildly. A flood of colorful French phrases began to stream from his mouth and he beat himself on the forehead again. The young woman stood stock still, mouth agape and stunned into silence. All at once the auditioner regained coherence and thrust a figner toward the doors. "Out! Out out OUT!" The girl seemed to jump, tears filling her eyes. "But I'm not even done with my audition." The man was calm now when he snorted. "No the audition is quite finished I think. thank you for your time." He sat gingerly in his chair and balanced the clipboard over his thighs, stroking his little black goatee and adjusting his wireless oval spectacles. The girl lingered until a stern look and a gesture from the man caused her bottom lip to tremble. She walked past christine stiffly, her hands clenched into fists and eyes rapidly blinking back her tears. "NEXT!" Came the clarion call, Christine the only girl present. "Hey break a leg girl." came that smooth, unfazeable tone from next to her. The "boy" from outside slumped into the chair next to her, no sound having given away his approach. His grin was wide and porcelain white, his large hand clapping her on the back in encouragement.

She heard the frustrated and utterly shocked voice of the director ring through the vast auditorium, and she was quite taken back. She tilted her head slightly at the girl on stage, watching her green eyes start to water from the verbal abuse she was receiving. Her eyes never left the girl as she wandered down the stairs off of the stage and briskly walked past her. Christine did her best to give her a compassionate smile of encouragement and almost apologizing for the directors behavior as she passed, but the girl didn’t even seem to see Chris, she just kept her eyes on the floor and burst through the metal doors. Christine didn’t turn her head to follow her out the door.
“NEXT!” Christine stuffed her bag into the seat and turned to exit the aisle when another voice shocked her into a jump. “Break a leg.” She turned to face those steel blue eyes again. She gave a confident smile and stepped out onto the carpet leading up to the stairs. Once on stage she could barely make out the figure in the front row, her vision fighting past bright lights. “I assume you read the script, realized it differs vastly from the original and memorized your monologue?” Said the nonchalant voice booming from the front row. Chris’ arm raised up to shield her eyes from the bright light and she nodded. “Begin.” He said rather impatiently.
“What?” She said in an audible voice meant to imitate a whisper. Her hands raised in front of her face as if holding a tiny creature. “Could it be? Wretched being do you speak the truth?” She raised the invisible being to her ear, her face once docile and sweet slowly twisted in furious anger. “My Grendel? He has passed? No- He has been murdered? Slain by the hands of the mortal Beowulf?” Her face went from anger, her brows arching in evident sadness. She fell to the ground, her skirt hiking high up her waist giving a rather explicit view of her firm bottom. “CAN IT BE!” She screamed, her voice powerful and booming across the auditorium. “CAN IT BE MY SON, MY ONLY SON HAS BEEN SLAIN.” She covered her face, sobbing desperately an array of real tears pouring from her amber eyes. She shouted in refusal, denying the evident fact that her son had died. Her cries continued for as long as Chris felt necessary before she slowly rose, her back facing the audience. Her shoulders, slowly stopped bouncing. “Revenge, revenge is the only thing that can make this right. Should I kill the wicked bastard himself?” She made a beckoning motion towards the invisible creature and again cradled it in her palms. “Sweet pixie what do I do? An eye for an eye, a death for a death to lure the mortal here. That is it, that is my solution. “ She turned on her heels, her eyes glimmering with hatred and demise. “I shall kill one close to him, and take his body to feast. Then I will spill the Beowulf’s blood myself.” A sick deviant smile crossed her lips, but then returned to a solemn expression. “But for now…I weep.” Another tear slid down her face. “I weep for the loss of my beautiful son….” Her monologue was over. She came out of pose and into a resting position facing the bright lights that she assumed was the director expectantly.

Thin, but wild applause broke out from the seats behind her. Adam was standing in the rows, a smirk on his face, clapping his hands together and nodding. His eyes glinted in the light. Placing two fingers between his lips, he gave a piercing whistle. "Well, the audience seems to like you Miss." the director commented wryly. "Apart from your enthusiastic review, you're far and above the best performance I've seen all day." Standing, he lay aside his clipboard, gesturing to Adam who promptly ceased his cheering and walked sedately onto the stage. "I think you've got it Christine. Good show." His muscled arm looped about her waist and drew her gently to her feet while the director regarded her with arms crossed over his chest. He stroked his sparse facial hair severely, face impassive and hard. "Yes Adam I think she'll do. She'll have to, as we don't have anybody better." Sighing, he turned away and bent down to reach udner his folding chair. "Don't let him get you down." Adam said lightly, hand still about her waist, suit brushing agaisnt her thinner clothes as his fingertips cupped her soft hip. Bending over, he whispered breathily into her ear. "He hates all his actors. Oractresses in this case."
The director returned bearing a tall bottle of brown glass, a parchment label pasted upon the corked vessel with some foreign label printed in an elegant type. "I was this close to using this to drown my sorrows back home, but praise be to heaven, you've prevented that." Giving Christine a thin, ambiguous smile, he poured a glass of heavy brown liquor into a pair of glasses, handing one each to Christine and the young "boy". He looked the part, "his" acting immaculate. Even the way the glass of spirits was held seemed masculine. The sharp, mellow aroma of sweet whiskey wafted up from the glasses whiel the director poured his own. "To Christine!" The director nodded quietly and clinked his glass agaisnt his.

Christine smiled widely as the auditorium broke out into applause. She was impressed with herself, and the sound of the eruption of hand clapping and even a whistle, which she later accredited to Adam. She eagerly accepted his arm, hoisting herself up to her feet. She mused to herself as the director rather non-chalantly cast her for the role. She knew he was being difficult and prejudice, but he couldn’t deny she was perfect for the part. She looked over her shoulder at the tall, broad shouldered man. “I figured as much,” She said with another toothy smile. “And as I told you, skill.” She winked, only to have her attention redirected at the director returning with a celebration gift.
The student took a large gulp, the hot liquid streamed down her throat stinging as it made its way down. It warmed her to the bone, and she shuddered slightly, struggling to keep her face docile, preventing it to twisting with distaste. She’d never really liked alcohol, but hell this was a toast in her honor. “To me!” She cheered rather vainly, taking another generous swig of the liquor.
As things always do, the mood settled and turned from a celebration to immediate work. She was directed to make her way towards the back and into the dressing room so she could be properly fitted for her costume. She was excited, hadn’t that boy said he would be responsible for the look? She pondered taking long strides behind the stage and down the dimly lit hall. Her eyes roamed over the doors, searching for the dressing room with the label “B” on it. She nearly walked past it, stopping abruptly at the cherry wooden door, coiling her slender fingers around the brass knob and pushing her way into the room. It was nice, real nice considering it was for a school and not an entirely professional theatre. With a smile she plopped down into the red velvet chair and crossed her legs, peering around the room. She waited patiently, Adam was supposed to bring her, her costume and make sure everything fit okay. After all, it was part of the directors “vision”. Still, she couldn’t get past that odd feeling that a man that young could even be a student at the school. She’d never heard anything like it, more than once she wanted to just get up and leave. Go back to her dorm and talk with Elise about it, but that undying feeling of pride made her stay. The director needed her, the play needed her.
