The Darklight Grimore shimmered into existence in one of its most common traps. The main library of Shokushu. The library had proven to be an excellent location to bait new students into providing entertainment for its master, the fallen angel Seraph.

In its new position in the mostly empty Paranormal section of the Library the Darklight Grimore extended the network of wards and watcher spells that would allow it to pick a suitable source of entertainment. It left the section it was in until last to cast its wards, every other time it had come here this section had been empty so it saw no reason to waste the time it would take to watch the area around it. As far as the Darklight Grimore was concerned, this was simply a staging area for its real trap somewhere else in the library. It would wait here out of sight where it's compel enchantment would not affect anyone while it located the best possible source of entertainment. Once that was found it would start arranging things to bring that source under its enchantment, and out of the public eye so that Seraph could safely use what the Darklight Grimore had lured for him.

Raven turned the corner panting slightly as she limped into the library and straight to the paranormal section with a unique book in her hand turned to the odd blank page of the appendices where an odd light form of an angel appeared. a few names were listed that she couldn't quite read save for one which she gently muttered to herself.

"Seraph..."

she hummed to herself before closing the grimoire and moving through the different shelves as she cast a spell on herself in the rather empty section of the library. A few gestures changed her out of her uniform into what appeared to be a cloak, a long skirt with a slit up to her hip and what appeared to be a sleeveless top all midnight blue with gold and platinum embroidery and a saphire at the neck to hold it closed.

"Lets see, not interested in the creatures of other worlds, heaven or hell today... lets see about spells."

of course the book she held had it's own form of enchantments andwards around it and it's owner though that more than likely wouldn't stop all the effects of the darklight if any.

As the Darklight Grimore finished casting the last ward in the section it was currently occupied it was surprised, well as surprised as a book could be, to find a lone student walking towards it. Even more interesting was the fact she also held a tome of some power, enough that the Darklight Grimore decided to ignore the rest of the students in the library and focus on this one.

More spells were cast, ones of scrying and detection, as the Darklight Grimore tried to determine just how powerful her tome of magic was. It quickly determined that the tome was indeed an artefact of power, but compared to the Darklight Grimore it was just a fancy book. Of course that didn't stop the Darklight Grimore from wanting to test it, a scrying spell could be wrong, there were plenty of items that hid their power. The Darklight Grimore was one of them in fact, despite the vast amount of power Seraph had poured into it it seemed to be a completely ordinary book when looked at with mana sight.

As the student saw the spine of the Darklight Grimore it felt its enchantment slip unnoticed under the wards protecting her. She would suddenly come up with a reason to read this book, and neither she nor the tome she held would work out why she had that impulse until it was far to late.

Raven's eyes landed upon a rather interesting looking book. She watched it for a short time before letting go of her tome which began to simply float behind her following her simply as she approached the darklight grimiore brushing the cover off with a hand.

"Odd book, huh... "

She said simply picking it up and turning it around a few times before turning it to a random page; however the page she opened it to was completely blank, nothing had yet been written anyway.

"Strange..."

She muttered slightly as a bit of her own book shifted on the front cover; one of the several ornate embroidered lines split and opened revealing an odd eye, some combination of lizard and mammal it glared at the darklight uneasily. It couldn't place why it felt such great unease but, it did. It's own abilities of course were quite advanced even if it constantly hid them; true cosmic levels of power disguised to just be a simple weak magical tome.

Raven looked at the blank page for a short time curiously wondering why there would be a blank page in such a unique looking book.

The Darklight Grimore felt the alarm enchantment being activated the moment the student opened it. It had let her mind pick the page, but something had blocked her from picking the first page, thus it turned out blank. An undetectable tendril of magic slipped into her mind for a moment and got a single word, Spells. She wanted to read about spells.

Easy enough to arrange.

The next time she turned the page she would find herself reading the first page of the 3rd chapter. It would start at basic mana theory and work its way from there. It wanted to drag this out, to see how long it took the other tome to realise the Darklight Grimore's true nature. To test its power, and that of its maker.

Hopefully Seraph would give it the chance before he arrived, no matter what the tome was concealing the Darklight Grimore knew that nothing could stand against Seraph himself. His knowledge of magic was absolute, his command unbreakable. The moment he arrived any competition between the two books of power would end, but hopefully he was currently being entertained by something and was content to let the Darklight Grimore act independently for a while.

Raven turned the page, the words on it were very familiar, almost too familiar. she scoffed at them shaking her head.

"Another magic book... really? god damn it I hoped there was only one of these things..."

She sighed noticably as she turned the pages slowly seeing only familiar words and spells. The tome that gazed at the darklight grimaced slightly as it realized what it was looking at.

book of a fallen new divine... how interesting...

The book that floated behind Raven came to rest on her shoulder it's other eye opened as well to look over the tome before it and raven as she went looking for something new or unique in this book of spells.

pfft, the new divines of this universe are so weak and stupid it's ridiculous... i can't believe the great old one unnameable created them... so depressing.

This tome of course; though bound by various forces for the most part was the living embodiment of one of the old universe divines, a divine from before 'heaven or hell' though in it's current sealed state it was no more than raven's current power could bring into existence from it's pocket dimension of prison... even if it wasn't evil.

The Darklight Grimore sensed that the other tome was aware of what it was, and it even sensed the assumption that Seraph, and the angels he called brothers and sisters, had been made by some over-watching ancient power. It scoffed to itself at that assumption, the angels had made themselves. They did not need anything else to give them their power, they reached their position using their own power alone.

It could sense the books arrogance, its belief that Seraph was weak and stupid. It couldn't wait to prove just how wrong it was. It had encountered numerous references to the so called 'old' divines, in fact it even contained a battle between Seraph and one of them in its pages. It hadn't even rated as a difficult fight. Human turned 'angels' and 'demons' were far more dangerous than any such being, their ambition and emotion and memory of mortality drove them to constantly improve. Once they managed ascension they quickly out-stepped the so called 'gods' in power. Even without counting the benefits they got from belonging in the mortal plane.

But first it had to make sure the student stayed interested, preferably without revealing too much of its hand. The Darklight Grimore only contained basic spells and theories, but it would be impossible for her to have read them all. It wouldn't take long for her to find a page that contained either a spell or a magic theory that she had never even considered before. And that should keep her occupied long enough to plan just how the Darklight Grimore would manipulate this.

Infinite photographic memory of course hadn't been noticed by the grimoire; that was something that the book no doubt couldn't see. It turned the pages at a rather astonishing rate.

"Ugh can do that in my sleep. did that months ago... learned that when I first arrived here... that's page one of the elder's tome..."

The elder's tome looked at the grimore, it knew exactly who seraph was; and the old one he had fought. Of course the elder was much more than that old one, he had been a member of the old universe's own version of the human race, the elder was still part of the mortal plane to some extent though ageless and eternal. the elder was probably an equal to the angels that it apparently didn't realize were different from what it had assume.

"Alright what is this..."

Raven said simply looking over where spells started to become slightly more unique though all she did was glance at the pages for several moments before turning them.

"Alright getting a little bored with this... wonder if there's anything else interesting in this spell book... maybe some combat magic melee techniques i could use against the things on this island..."

While the other book had determined that the Darklight Tome was magical, it had no idea how much or how little power Seraph had imbued it with. It was completely concealing its own power, all the while it maintained a tiny sliver of magic inside the students head, reading her thoughts. It had determined who the student was the moment it detected her, after all she, and every single detail about her, was contained in the 4th chapter of its own pages. It knew about her memory, and while it gave her things vaguely interesting enough for her to continue reading it tried to find out exactly what she wanted. Just what would interest her.

When it picked up her desire for the practical application of power the next page she turned would be to the 2nd chapter. The 3rd contained how to cast magic, but the 2nd was exact recordings of Seraph's battles, and every one of those battles had been magical duels. Of course just to keep things interesting, and to test her and her books powers, the Darklight tome only translated the first page of the battle she was reading. Enough for her to realise that this could teach her all sorts of advanced combat techniques using magic. From that point on she would have to decipher the misunderstanding spell if she wanted to read more.
