Pia was standing outside a dark cave, an open maw in the mountain. She was wearing shorts, boots and a blue top. Her hair was tied in a braid, and she was wearing a kerchief to cover her head and protect against the sun. She had a backpack on her back. “This must be it. It can't be anywhere else”, she said aloud. The reason Pia was even here was a small notebook she had found hidden in the library. Hidden, wedged in between two books. Curiosity had gotten the better of her, and Pia had read it. It had been written by another student, by the name of Ivanna. Like Pia, Ivanna seemed to be curious about history, myths and the occult. Like Pia, she seemed to be investigating the more secret things about the island. Pia had even tried to find her, but no trace of any student that matched cold be found. Disappeared, was Pia's conclusion. But there was one thing in those notes that had captured Pia's attention more than anything. Ivanna had been searching for sites with mystical properties. That matched Pia's own research. She herself had been clued in to the existence of ley lines, lines of supernatural power, cutting across time and space, converging on certain spots. Sites with mystical properties. Pia believed travel along the lines could be possible. Could Ivanna have found a way off this island? Ivanna's notes had mentioned one cave in particular. A cave that was “between heaven and hell”. Pia had been trying to find it for a week now. Opening her backpack, Pia took out a few items. One was a flashlight. Since she might be crawling at some point, she had also brought kneepads and elbow pads, normally used for inline skating. She also had a ball of yarn. It worked for Theseus, after all. Pia put on her pads, put the map in the backpack and put it on. The string she tied to a tree. Here it goes! Pia stepped into the dark opening. |
