Post Re: Splashdown (For Aquavitali)
He realized that she was not simply naturally quiet, she had a practiced walk, using the padded balls of her feet. She must have been doing a lot of illegal, or undesireable activities before she came to shokushu. But after a second it was not the silence he paid attention to, it was the way her hips swayed almost hypnotically. He found himself absentmindedly staring for a second as she got further away. She may not have noticed the cool temperature of the interior of the Infinity, but her body certainly had. Her nipples were jutting from her already prominent breasts, swaying as she walked, making circles in the air.

The quiet sound from the lights made her stop herself abruptly, her breasts bouncing to a halt. It took her only a few seconds to figure out what was going on. She flattened herself low against the wall, possibly expecting someone to approach, but the hallway was as empty as when she first arrived, at least, to the eye. She talked to herself, clearly a bit nervous, and dismissed the lights as motion sensitive, seemin to have forgotten she was being watched.

She thought quietly to herself for a minute, looking all the way down the hallway, and over her shoulder back up towards the bridge. She must have come to a conclusion, as she knocked on one spot on the wall, then another. But she would not find any weak spots in these walls, nor would she find an echo, even though she was directly outside a maintenance hatch.she squinted, trying to make out the writing, but it was merely a design, there was no reason for it at all except for asthetically.

She had figured it out rather quickly, as it was indeed a UFO, but just how foreign she would probably never learn. He admired her spirit, identifying that the ship was working, and trying to think of how on earth(thiugh not really) she was goin to fly this thing home. The path she picked was one going towards the engine room. He had Tullius project a holo map of the ship in English, for when she arrived.

Now that the lights were on, Juniper could afford to move more briskly through the halls of the Infinity. Despite only having the vaguest idea where she was heading, she moved with purpose, making quick dashes from one bit of visual cover to another. At each intersection, she'd pause and listen closely before poking her head around the corner and then moving on. She was certainly quiet, but in the tomb-like silence of the ship, under her breath she could just barely be said to utter, "60, right", "35, straight", "47, left". Mental breadcrumbs, a step count and a direction, like Theseus with his ball of string she was ensuring that she could find her way back the way she'd come.

She wasn't moving completely at random, exactly. She likely never would have noticed had she been wearing her boots, but she wasn't moving completely at random any longer. It was faint, but she realized that she could feel a slight vibration through the floor. Whether it was the working of the machines great engine, or perhaps some faint variance in the artificial gravity was up for debate, by moving towards where the vibrations were stronger she could at least assure that she was moving towards something "31, left and down the ladder"

She paused long enough to look down, grabbing onto the rungs of the ladder and setting her feet to the sides, sliding swiftly down until she hit the deck plating below, bending low to the ground to absorb the speed of her descent, and throwing herself into a roll to one side as her body tried to naturally bounce back upright. Pressed up between the guide rail and a console, she waited a few moments before nodding to herself and poking her head up. What she saw caused her breath to catch in her throat for a moment.

Of course, the sciences behind it were far and away beyond her comprehension. It was more the implication of seeing a giant cylinder from below the floor up passed the ceiling of the chamber, a blue light slowly pulsing with blue light from somewhere in it's metallic shell like some kind of heart. Instead of the low, deep thrumming of an organic heart, however, she could feel the current running through the air, like a buzzing in her head in between cycles. Suspended in the air before the observation day was a shimmering white shape, and seeing that there were no engineers scurrying about checking the various gauges she raised herself to her feet and made her way over.

It was a hologram of some sort, a long white vessel with yellow markings. It didn't look aerodynamic, exactly, but the forward section seemed dense and swept into a point, like it was used to cut through water or perhaps as a ramming prow of some sort. A series of six engines made up the main thruster banks, though there were vectored thrust fins along the starboard and aft sides, a little low, but then she couldn't quite tell what the purpose of the dorsal section was. There were no guiding fins or lifting surfaces, the more she looked at the ship the more convinced she was that whoever had designed it had not had atmospheric flight in mind.

She narrowed her eyes a bit, as she approached the hologram the "skin" of the vessel slid away to reveal a cross section of the vessel's interior. She could see segments highlighted and clearly labeled in english. Reflexively, she reached to her collar for the place that her camera usually hung, having a map of the place to reference would definitely be handy. Of course, her camera had washed away with her vest, so she was going to have to rely upon her memory on this occasion. The english labeling was convenient, though more than a little bit surprising given the mysterious language she'd seen on the outer hull and the interior of the vessel.

"Computer, please highlight damaged sections." she stated authoritatively, of course, she didn't know whether or not the ship had some kind of omnipresent steward program, but it was worth a shot, "Also, report on the presence of life forms aboard vessel." hey, Star Trek wouldn't lie to her, right? As she waited to see if the display would acknowledge her demands, picked out the presence of the Bridge. If there wasn't a ship's computer listening to her, she'd have to try and access the data the old fashioned way.

She started moving quicker, as she could now at least see the maze of hallways before her. She was still quiet and darted to and for, as if still worried she might be discovered by the inhabitants of this ship. If she only knew what he had in plan for her. She must have a good memory, because at every intersection she recounted what she was doing and she was rather accurate with it as well. She was doing a good job getting towards the engine room. He chuckled to himself, she was following the vibrations... Interesting, he would show her some real vibrations in time.

She was still moving rather swiftly, not as quietly when she went down the ladder, the rustling of her light clothing making quite a bit of noise in the still air of the interior of the ship. She looked upon the quantum engine with awe, she could have no idea how much power she was looking at, if she did she would have run away screaming. This wasn't what powered the thrusters, those were simple fuel engines, this created a circular gravity field, causing the ship to constantly slingshot, but doing it in a straight line instead of around a planet. It practically created a fake planet, and would never burn out. She saw the floating console, and, sure that she was alone, scurried forward quietly, examining it.

She was not openly surprised at the hologram. But an overview o the ship seemed right up her alley as she examined it with a light of understanding in her eyes. The nature of the ship was one that was unknown to most as it was used as an invasionary tactic and no world had survived it before. She studied the interior, understanding the labeling with ease. She was probably confused from what she saw on the hull plating, but that was just for decoration to confuse the people of the planet the ship landed on.

She talked aloud to the hologram, and he talked to tullius, telling him to make the image do whatever it is she says, as he watched her intently.

She settled her hands on the guardrail and raised herself up on her toes and she bent forward a bit to try and get a slightly better look at the hologram, squinting a bit. It was the damnedest thing, she could see little three foot high portals on the map, maintenance hatches purportedly, but some of them were located in halls she knew she'd just been through. So, how hadn't she noticed them?

She blinked a bit as sections of the map began to flash red, small tags carrying with them further details. The hull had held together, and it seemed that any microfractures were being tended to by the strange heating effect in the metallurgy. The jarring of impact had seemed to knock systems offline randomly here and there . . . this deck had no power to the lights do to a broken conduit, that door's locking mechanism had jammed and would have to be opened manually before it could be repaired, but all in all the major systems all seemed to be in good order. It looked like someone had been busy. There were no live wires reported, and none of the damage she could detect seemed like the sort that would spread if unattended to, so whoever was still around had handled damage control before lowering the gangplank.

Finally, the life signs reading came back. A single blue pip glowed back at her from the hologram, causing Juniper to tilt her head to one side. Of course, since her command had been relayed through Tulius, the alien servant had taken a few moments to calibrate the search to ignore him, and Vitalis's unique construction wouldn't have appeared even to an unmodified scan.

"Display crew overview." she said, rubbing her chin. A second window winked into existence to the side of the ship's model, the names of a light ship's compliment worth of crew appearing. Next to each name was a glowing red stamp "Deceased" along with a set of numbers she presumed translated to a date. Only one name lacked the mark, a "Tulius". Nothing was said of how the rest of the crew had died. Juniper wondered at first if it had been the crash, or if one person was simply too few to direct a ship of this size. Either way, it seemed that there was only one person she'd have to deal with.

"Ship, display armory." well, if she was going to deal, she was damn well going to deal on equal footing. After a moment, a room highlighted gold, and why not? She might feel safer, but Vitalis had already proven himself capable of dealing with the meager pirate's arsenal when he'd stalked and slaughtered the crew in their own homes, what threat was a lone girl lost and wandering the halls? For her part, Juniper was hoping that there'd be some form of nonlethal armament waiting for her. The notion of killing someone, even an alien, for her own gain didn't sit well with her.

"Display medical." she said next, working out the route in her head, "And the bridge." she said, wanting a chance to see exactly how bizarre the ship's controls were before approaching this Tulius.

"Computer, where can I locate a portable directory?" she finally asked, rolling her shoulder. No, there was no way she was going to keep all this straight if things went crazy, she couldn't let one wrong turn leave her roaming about like a lost lamb.

The complicated, seamless nature of the ship was probably confounding her, but if course it was all in protocol for a ship of this class, if an intruder somehow made their way in, they wouldn't be able to get anywhere... At least not without a guide. He grinned evilly to himself for just a moment as he recollected on what he had done so far. Her scan for life was less than accurate of course. Tullius made sure of that, but Vitalius most likely wouldnt have shown up on the scan do to his unique makeup.

Oh she was good, Tullius had 't thought of the crew manifest, and now she knew Tullius was alive, even if he wasn't on the ship at the moment. The armory was fully stocked with state of the art weapons, but he wouldn't let her know that, instead he had Tullius tell the computer that the only weapon left aboard was a high intensity welding torch in a maintenance hatch in the hallway she had passed through right before dropping down the ladder.

The medbay showed, a small blip right under the bridge, which she had been very close to when she entered, though the reinforced windows had been blackened from the atmospheric landing. At her command the huge map shrunk down to just larger than palm size, and an automated voice described the auto zoom setting for when she searched.

"Well, that's convenient." Juniper mused as she cupped her hand and made as if she was picking the light display up. There was no physical component that she could see, no wrist band or handheld or clip-on emitter. The hologram simply moved when she "touched" it.

"Neat." she said, raising both eyebrows as she bounced it back and forth between her hands a few times. She supposed that the ship's environment must've had an array that allowed the hologram to exist wherever it was needed. Of course, that meant that she wouldn't have a map on any decks without power. Fortunately, those were still blacked out on her little display. After a moment, she turned her left palm up and tried to force the hologram down into her wrist. It kind of "squished" for a moment as if encountering resistance, but when her hand touched her arm it "bounced" free. Turning her arm a few times, it seemed she'd managed to figure out how to anchor her map to something while she moved.

"Also neat." she chuckled a bit to herself. She must've sounded like a child, being impressed by a fancy user interface like this. She was standing in a freaking space ship, and she was complimenting the silly little innovations of Space-Windows. "Plot route, and track my current position."

She didn't wait for the computer to respond as she turned around and grabbed hold of the ladder again. First thing was first, she wanted that welding torch, and she knew where that was. She just needed to figure out how to access the hatch . . . which she'd want to know anyway in case she had to do any cat and mouse games with this "Tullius" guy later.

Clearly she had never seen technology even remotely like this before. Vitali pondered showing her all that the ship had to offer, save for the weaponry reserves of course, but to be honest he probably would let her have one of those, if it wouldn't damage the insides of the ship. She figured out a solitary function of the holopad. And seemed delighted to have figured it out. Though there was an infinite amount of potential in the device, she was proud, and he was delighted.

He could tell she had knowlege of Tullius and was a bit frightened of him, he manipulated the console to say aloud. " please input command." He looked at her surprise and her confusion, knowing that face would soon be his.

Post Re: Splashdown (For Aquavitali)
She could feel her heart beating swiftly in chest, the mixture of excitement from finding so utterly fantastic mingling with creeping dread of the unknown to make her a little giddy. She'd been embroiled in more than her fair share of the mysteries since arriving on the island, each layer peeling away to reveal a further peril or deeper perversion than the last, but the thrill of discovery still called to her like a siren's song. There was the faint tracery of a smile on her lips as she settled her hand on one of the ladder rungs that would take her back out of engineering, pulling herself up as placed a bare foot against the cold steel rung.

She paused in her climb, one leg still dangling unsupported in the air, as a clearly synthetic voice called out. She let go with one hand and swiveled at the waist to look back into the engineering room, her eyebrows knitting together in consternation as she tried to determine what was looking for her attention. She pulled up her arm, taking in the spherical section of the map she'd zoomed in on and the faintly pulsing line that was directing her towards the bridge and infirmary. Everything seemed to be in order there. After a moment, she decided that it must have been an engineering console and cupped a hand to her mouth to amplify her voice as she called out.

"Open maintenance hatch 37b and remain in standby!"
she said, wondering if she had to rely upon the ship's computers to open the hatches in the halls. It would explain why she couldn't see any handles or seems, at any rate. She waited for a moment to see if the console would execute her instructions or send back a fault . . . if the latter, she'd have to think of another way to get at the welding torch she'd passed by earlier. She turned her arm to look at the holographic map for a moment, wondering if it was a seperate system of another function of the ship's main computer.

"Display root directory and list functions."
she commanded pleasantly, hanging for a few moments more before she decided to drop back down or continue on her way.
