"Stay here. I'll bring your gift down."

He leapt into his treetop home and grabbed a small box for her and brought it down for her.

"My daughter studied the dark arts as well. This ring was hers. It'll amplify your powers. You'll notice the difference. Bring justice to this island and my daughter."

The ring was gold with a red ruby inset. Kissing her cheek, he spoke.

"Promise me you'll do this, Kanoe."

Kanoe looks up as the spider disappears into the darkness. She was not sure what to expect. Though she should be used to it by now, she found herself feeling very vulnerable standing out in the nude. She could only thank the darkness for hiding her faintly blushing cheeks.

Her eyes widen at the sight of the small ruby ring. The mention of the dark arts gained her attention immediately. It will amplify her power? She takes the small box, closing it gently as she nods slowly. Kanoe too wanted her revenge on this island so accepting this promise will do no harm to her.

"I..I promise," she whispers.

"Thank you, Kanoe."

He stroked her cheek with his tendril, a tear forming at his eye.

"Don't think I won't come back to ravage you again, Kanoe. But, not now. I'll guide you out of here, and leave you be...for now.

At the outskirts of the forest, he spoke once more.

"I can never be what I was, but you can stop more like me being created. Go in peace."

She shivers slightly to his touch. He was a creation from NICE labs. Perhaps she was lucky that he regained a bit of his humanity long enough to give her this gift. In this never ending struggle, she needed all the help she can get.

Her arms wrapped tightly around herself in the cool night air. Her hands had a death grip on the small box containing the ring. She lets out a long sigh, looking back at the creature. Will she be able to stop him the next time he hunts her? Will she be able to protect Claire? The witch merely nods, knowing there was little that could be said in this situation. She turns and walks away.

Once out of sight, she breaks into a run. Who knows what else is waiting for her in the night.
