So, out of curiosity, since it's such a prevalent topic these days, what does everyone think are the chances that we are headed, in the next 50 years or so, for some sort of apocalyptic, world-changing event? The scale of a qualifying event does not need to be on the level of a human extinction or planetary destruction, just whatever the poster thinks counts as an apocalypse. Pandemics, global warming, global thermonuclear warfare, zombie outbreak, widespread famine, you name it. |

The most apocalyptic thing I can see is a) the internet being lawyered to death as a place for free speech and b) a growing feeling that the internet will end up being regulated according to the prejudices of a mid-west preacher. |

I'd give it a .00000001% chance of anything apoclyptic happoning. If anything, it'll be a large war. Not even nuclear, just a standard. |

personally i see the usa finishing it's fall as the primary world power but, nothing really apocolyptic really, maybe an asteroid taking out a small area in 2038 but, not end of the world or anything |

Best chance of something like that happening is in 2048 at the earliest. |

If the apocalypse is to be an awakening or a resurgence of thought as has become a popular theory. Than I would gladly accept this second renisance, the world could certainly use it. I might even be excited. If it's Fire and Brimstone, and wholesale slaughter of humanity than at least it wouldn't be boring and I wont have to pay my rent. In the mean time I cite Billy Joel. The internet included. Things are gonna be as screwed up as they always were. |

Don't think it will happen any time soon. But playing Fate of the World I can say we will eventually just cook the world and ruin the ecosystem (increased overall temperature of planet by 2.5 degrees by 2080 XD). What I am expecting is the US just going kaput after the rest of the world no longer accepts our fake money. Its really bad when every new president just keeps promoting deficit spending. Just keep printing those dollars out *nods nods* |

Well, you did give it a low angle of 3 degrees. The moon probably just skipped off the surface. And making it stone instead of ice would mean more of the mass actually hits the surface. Though I have had similar thoughts about smaller objects. It is fun and I'm going to try using the moon myself now. |
