Background: It had been an ordinary life with ordinary parents for Valerie. Born to a housewife and her company executive husband, there wasn't very much that she didn't go without, except for her father's attention, naturally. From the start, she had been enrolled into the best schools his money could get her into, constantly encouraged to do her best, and even when she had brought back home great grades, she was only told to keep it up. For a long time, Valerie felt as if her father had wanted more from her than she had to give. Of course, this led her to believe that her father wished he had gotten a son instead of a daughter. Around this time, it was when she began to exhibit tomboyish characteristics, going out for sports and physical activities instead of being 'girly' with the other girls, hanging out with the boys and playing rough with them rather than spend her time talking about fashion and celebrities and romance.
Apart from maintaining a high GPA, Valeria began to excel in athletic activities and could be seen participating in clubs and after school programs, along with doing community service and charity work. It was, though, quite clear that she was pushing herself way too hard to make her father proud of her. Then, after being predictably hospitalized after all of the things she had done, her father made a visit to her room. What followed was a long conversation about everything between them, all the tension and the problems. In the end, her father scolded her. Not for passing out or pushing herself so hard, but for trying to make him proud when he couldn't have been any prouder of her already. Being a man that always had a difficult time expressing himself, he convinced her that she needn't do anything but live for herself and enjoy life to the fullest.
After she had been released from the hospital, Valerie was given her birthday present a few months earlier, a tattoo saying
'Carpe Diem' as a reminder from her father that life was far too short to waste on making other people happy. After this, she went on to finish high school with exemplary grades and records. It was then that she decided to go traveling, see more of the world before moving on to the next part of her life. Valeria spent three years moving from place to place, seeing the sights, working at part-time jobs while living in new cities, exploring and learning about people and cultures. It was only when she turned 21 that Valeria decided that it was time to go back into education, and after careful consideration, she decided on Shokushu.
Personality: Though she has matured into a young woman, Valerie still retains some of her tomboyish tendencies, being more interested in different things than other women would be, it has only given her great confidence in herself along with a strong self-esteem and pride. She is also fond of meeting new people and making friends with them, but dislikes it when people are rude and offensive and is likely to be sarcastic and cold toward them. Though, she is willing to let things slide and give people another chance. She also dislikes being made to feel weak and helpless and would rather fight back with all her strength and resist until the end instead of just giving in. While Valerie is on great terms with most men, she is far more fond of her own sex and tend to be attracted to other women instead.
