The doors closed right behind them though her traveling companion showed no signs of being disturbed. Perhaps he was emotionless, perhaps he simply knew the outcome based on their speed and the rate the door was closing though that would take incredible mathmatical skills.

They were not out of the woods yet as they pulled away from the planet heading into space the creature watched her curiously noting what controls did what. He further understood things by the surface thoughts in her brain at the time.

But they still had the planet in sight when two fighters appeared on their sensors at the edge of sensor ranging and coming in hot as they quickly cut the distances between them.

The creature with her seemed interested now in the stakes. He moved to one of the consoles letting his fingers fly over some of the controls as he brought the shields into being. He had not quite learned everything about flying from her mind just yet but he learned enough to do this simple task as the two fighters pulled to the edge of firing range.

The two fighters managed to both escape as the door closed right behind them. The pirate wasn't sure how the two had managed to avoid colliding with each other but somehow they did. She was pretty sure they left scorch marks on the door considering how little space they had before the door closed.

Now they two had to do with leaving the atmosphere. This in of itself was rather routine but only because there procedures that even pirates followed when flying atmospheres. It was that procedure that made what should be dangerous into the routine.

As the two craft were leaving orbit of the planet, two contacts appeared at the edge of sensor range. A quick scan made them appeared to be fighters. Rei cursed her luck, her fighter was at a disadvantage in that it was really a blockade runner more than a fighter.

Okay, Aegir. Follow my lead. Don't break away from wing whatever happens. And keep anyone off my wing if you can. Rei was not sure how well Aegir would work out as a wingman and she was struggling to remember her training on Antares Base, but with luck the two of them would be able to hold their own.

Aegir glanced at her confused for a moment before he realized through scanning her mind that Rei was so focused that she was in combat mode and assumed he was flying with her in another ship rather than standing beside her. He chuckled, amused by her genuinely surprised for a change.

He had assumed that the fighters were launched from elsewhere but he was not on sensors and thus did not have the same information that she had been subject too.

I'm afraid that is impossible, they are too distant to affect their minds so I cannot even project an illusion.

It occurred to him that in his long life that he was actually in some degree of danger here. The pilots were well out of range of his mental influence and about the only thing he could do was difficult, bending light was never easy, at least for an extended period. He might be able to bend the lasers before they hit the ship but they were much bigger than pistols and harder to accomplish, still there was no harm in trying.

This will be interesting ...

Rei suddenly realized he had climbed into her fighter, that is how the two of them managed to escape the closing doors without running into each other. The platinum blonde silently cursed herself that she had not realized it sooner. Well at least she would have to work on cooperative tactics.

Then hold on to something and buckle up, this going to be very bumpy very quickly.

The young woman tugged on the Cosmo Eagle's joystick as she launched her fighter directly at the two enemy fighters. The plan was simple give them as little time to fire at her as possible. They probably had a good idea that her weapons faced forward as well and would want to exposed to her as little as possible. If this planned worked she could attempt to move pass them and make a break for for some sort of debris in orbit. This ship excelled at fine movement so that would give her the best chance at escaping.

Aegir soaked in her thoughts as tentacles wrapped around a seat and a few different places at the control console. He set the pyramid down as he pulled himself into the seat then took up the pyramid again just before the ship banked and started heading back. He did not question her reading the thoughts on her mind he knew of her reasoning and he had little experience in ship to ship tactics other than what he had read you could say that he was a virgin here. Needless to say he was both exited and nervous about the immediate future only because it was for once not under his direct control and there was little he could do about things.

Little until that got closer anyway though the fighters were firing at them the second that they got into firing range. At first it was easy to evade the shots at long range but as the ships neared one another it grew progressively easier for them, that and Aegir was having a hard enough time bending all the shots coming near them and had to trust in Rei's evasive manuevers.

He felt the ship lurch as it was hit once, twice, then a third time klaxxons blaring out a warning as sparks flew across the console as shield strength began failing. One thing Aegir noted was that the fighters were quick but they also had weapons that were fixed to fire in a front arc meaning that they would be forced to turn around once they blew by.

Shields at 35% ... Already. But as they neared amongst a sea of shots and fancy flying he began feeling it, thoughts, a connection with the mind's of the other pilots and while they would again be out of range soon he could at least buy them a few seconds which may assist them.

Illusions so that the wrong controls were pressed, that the pilot's believed they were still firing when they weren't. He did what he could in that moment for it was probably the only one he would have.

Rei did her best to avoid the enemy's fire but she could only evade the fire for so long as her profile was getting larger and larger in their gun sights as she closed rapidly on them. Once she was lined up with an enemy fighter she fired a burst at them. She didn't care whether she hit them or not as long as she caused them to miss their shots. If she crippled one then all the better, but otherwise the goal was just to blow right by them and worry about the next step once she had gotten past them.

Her shots did have the intended effect on the first fighter with the pilot being too worried about getting hit to worry about shooting her. It game her a little knowledge of the fighters she was facing, they did not want to get hit by her guns. Still because she had to focus on the first fighter, it meant that his wingman had no problems lining up shots on her.

The ship lurched as it was hit three times from the second fire. Klaxons blared out as Rei let out a quick shout of surprise as sparks flew up from the console. Aegir quickly read out the percentage of the shield remaining and it was clear another burst like that was going to screw up the Cosmo Eagle pretty well, though they would probably survive it.

It was then that she noticed the pilots were driving their fighters in random directions after they passed. She had no idea what happened, but now was not the time to figure that out. Now was the time to act. The pirate yanked hard on the controls as she spun her Eagle 180 to engage the fighters from behind. It would take a moment or two for them to reorganize into a formation again and if she could catch them, maybe she could cripple or destroy one of them. That might encourage the other to withdraw too and give Aegir and Rei time to escape!

Rapidly she spun the ship about while the others moved eradictly and tried to do the same but seemed clumsier at doing so. It was not the fact that they were poor pilots either, it was a combination of them not being as manueverable as the Eagle and Aegir messing with their minds, minds that were still in range.

This time as a barrage of fire washed over one of the fighters he used the perceptions in the mind of the other fighter to target the ignition switch for the engines, he knew which one was the correct one through his mind.

Using telekinesis he flicked the engine off stalling the engine and causing the ship to plummet. Of course the pilot would get the engines to come back online before long, By this stage they should be long gone and in the meantime the pilot was a sitting duck.

There was a flicker of energy from the shields of the fighter before they failed completely. The next barrage turned the fighter into a fireball, apparently these vessels were not as rugged as her own, they were built for power as far as their weapons went and speed to run down fleeing vessels.

With the one ship destroyed and the other plummeting they could get out of dodge before something else comes up.

The fighters looked like they attempting to respond to having the Eagle on their tails, but the attempts to make erratic movements to shake her appeared to be clumsy at best. Considering how coordinated there movements were, Rei could only conclude something had gone wrong with the fighters. It was bad news for them, but excellent news for herself.

She brought her Eagle in position to line up shots for at one fighter and began to fire. Her shots hit home as she had no problem maintaining her lock on the enemy fighter. Her computer began to complain that the three combatants were approaching the atmosphere of the planet she had just escaped from.

It was then that the enemy fighter's wingman developed engine problems. His engine completely shut off and the fighter began to plummet into the atmosphere. The pirate could see the fighter heat up as took one of the worse courses into the atmosphere.

The fighter in front of her let of a brief flicker as a sign that ship had completely failed. The platinum blonde let off her guns for a second to give them a chance to recharge before she let out another burst. The fighter soon exploded in a huge fireball, a sign that they were meant to take full advantage of their speed and not their armor.

Rei immediately scanned her sensors to see if there were any other fighters in the area, but all she could see was the fighter plummeting into the atmosphere desperately trying to get his engine restarted. By the time he had done that and saved himself the Eagle would be long gone. Immediately, Rei took off for the edge of the system.

As she edged out of the atmosphere she did detect a quartet of fighters racing in her direction but they were too distant to be much of a threat seeing how she wasn't intending on being there for much longer. In fact soon thereafter she punched her ship into hyperspace leaving the world behind, a quick jump to a neighboring system where she could make another jump was in order. Perhaps she would loose any vessels attempting to track the trajectory of the ship by altering her course and thus loosing pursuit. A simple pirate trick mind you but quite effective.

Pulling out of the atmosphere, the sensors picked up a new threat appearing on the horizon. It appeared a quartet of fighters, the rest of the squadron racing to interceptor. Fortunately there was no one ahead of her and the Cosmo Eagle could do what it did best, run, run as fast it can. The Cosmo Eagle rapidly moved away until she was far enough away to not be affected by the planet's gravity. It was then that she jumped into hyperspace.

Upon arriving at another system, the pirate quickly began the process of calculating a new jump nearby where they could hopefully lose any pursuers. It was only when she had her calculations done did she take a moment to think about the next step.

Unfortunately, the next step is to lay low until the heat dies down a bit and then attempt to find Eduardo. It was then that she realized he knew exactly what was going through her mind and what she had been up to. How in the world can you possibly know what we have been up to the last few weeks, was in on the evening news or something?

He chuckled softly raising one of his tentacles to lightly press against her temple.

[i][color=#440000]I know what you know ... granted some things take more time then others but reading surface thoughts is as easy for me as breathing would be for you. Of course they'd be expecting just that, for you to lay low.

It depends on how badly they want you at this stage. They can easily round up enough pirates and shake things up until someone gives you up, applying enough pressure and all ... that is of course if any no anything. Needless to say your usual haunts, those known by pirates, would be out.

Rei thought she heard a chuck as a tentacle moved up and pressed against her forehead. He told her that he could read her surface thoughts very easily, which more than disturbed her. The very idea of a creature being able to do that made the young pirate more than a little fearful. All she could do really was focus on what she wanted to do.

Y-yes, I agree. I don't think there is anywhere I could previous go to that would be safe for the while. I will have to find a new place for now where they wouldn't be able to find me and some place where I can keep an ear out about the latest news.
