"If the person is blind, then no I can't use it on them. And if they lost a particular sense like smell or hearing, I can't manipulate it. One other catch is I have to have had the same or similar experience to affect the other person. Like how I made you smell all those flowers, my family estate has a beautiful garden and green house I'd visit often. So I drew upon that experience to give you that sensation." Rosalie explains. "Oh, and before you ask, I can't use it on myself. Not even by looking in a mirror."

“I figured it would be limited based on the person you were dealing with.” Based on there own handicaps of course. Fascinated that she is able to resist her own powers Rhaine considers that for a moment.

“Is this ability one in your family that has been passed down? Is that why you might be immune to it from ancestors that were continuously exposed."

"No one else in my family past or present, has ever had such an ability. Or if they did it was never spoken of. But I believe I can't use it on myself because looking in a mirror is not direct eye contact. So the same would follow if I tried looking at someone else in the mirror. Tell me though, this blue haired girl you spoke of before, were you referring to Ishtar?" It was the only blue haired girl on the island Rosalie knew of, but there could be others.

That made sense about the mirror thing, if she couldn't use it to affect herself in this manner then it made sense that she couldn't do it to another in similar manners.

“Your secrets safe with me. I'm unsure, it could be … I don't think I ever caught her name, before I knew it this entity was directing me to act. I can best describe it as a ghost though. I tried blocking most of it out so I might have missed the name … there aren't too many blue haired girls though I think the ghost was planning on having more fun with her and left me fortunately so he probably has more fun tormenting her or kept it's word … I managed to throw off it's influence for a few seconds before it threatened me again and I relented in fear of reprisal though I don't think I would have managed it so soon.”

"A monster that can possess people? Sounds just as bad as being attacked by one directly. But I haven't seen any others, so maybe I'm not the right person to make that judgement. Though the one I've met can be scary when she's angry."

"I can understand you wanting to tell her about it. I'm sure if someone happened to see what was happening, they would likely get the wrong idea. The last time I met with that mermaid alien, I did try to use my hypnosis. Mainly because she wasn't happy with me and I was scared. But it seems it had no effect on her at all."

Rhaine wonders if it was just the hypnosis abilities or other elements. Maybe the mermaid is just immune to it. Rhaine had no extraordinary abilities nor did she see anything out of the norm that told her that abilities were being suppressed. She neither knew of or suspected inhibitors.

“Maybe she's immune to it or the ability can only manipulate human minds because you do something on a subconscious level to become more familiar with how human minds work. I don't know.”

And she didn't, shrugging a little. “Have you come across any males yet?”

Rosalie shakes her head. "No, but Myra did warn me I may encounter one eventually, and that most can be brutal whether I'm a virgin or not. It seems her race doesn't regard virginity as highly as we do, and doesn't understand why we would want to hold onto it like we do. Fortunately, she has at least respected my wishes and hasn't taken it...yet."

"I think it could be the latter with a little bit of lucky being on your side. On mine too I'm sure, seeing as I have yet to meet any other creatures. I just don't know if I should continue to take my chances or just let Myra or someone else take my virginity rather than lose it in any painful manner."

Rhaine considers the question for a moment. She did not have such a problem when coming to the island some months back. “For you're first time you'll probably appreciate it more if it's with someone that actually cares about you in some fashion.

“They need not love you but someone you know won't hurt you needlessly.”

"I guess I just haven't gotten to know anyone that well. I've been trying to avoid doing that for the sake of my family. How would I explain to them giving up my virginity to another girl? I doubt they'll believe any stories about the monsters here."

“Well as Phil Collins says you can't hurry love,” she grins then shakes her head. “OK, bad joke. My parents use to listen to his music all the time. But it would seem that you're time is finite. You've already seen a few of these things so they're closing in.

“If your folks aren't going to believe you, Lord knows mine won't believe me, then should it happen and it's taken then you won't be able to explain why it's gone … they'll probably just assume that you were with another girl anyway.”

"I'm just not sure how they would react to that though. I mean they've never said they had a problem with things like that, but it doesn't necessarily mean they won't be upset. I don't know, maybe I really am worrying too much." Rosalie sighs rubbing her head a little.
