In Depth:
Whisperer is dead . . . or so it seems. His continuing struggle for dominance with his alter ego Tempest led to a massive battle of wills between the two powerful psychic personae. In the end, Tempest succeeded in freeing himself, destroying Whisperer's body in the process. The result was two discrete entities: one of thought (Tempest) and one of spirit (Whisperer).

As a being of pure spirit, Whisperer is invisible, intangible and inaudible; he is a ghost. He can travel in any direction at any speed, unimpeded by physical barriers or environmental dangers. Like many powerful spiritual entities, Whisperer can exert force and communicate through psychic means. When he wishes to make himself known, he can manifest as an amorphous mass of shimmering fire. This is an entirely psychic phenomenon, so only living minds can see it. It is also selective, meaning that it can only be seen by those Whisperer allows. The flames are tangible in relation to those that can see them, but are not hot; nor do they burn. Instead they produce a strangely cool tingling or pulsing when in contact with a living being. They cannot be doused by any normal means as they are not truly a form of fire. The dimensions of the firey mass are variable, but usually of a volume equivalent to that of a sphere six feet in diameter.

Whisperer has total control of the flames. They can be any color, brightness and intensity he desires and can be shaped and directed in any pattern he can imagine. Consequently, Whisperer can create any number of any type of appendages he desires. Such limbs are strong enough to easily lift and subdue a typical human girl. Theoretically, his reach is unlimited, but in practice, it rarely exceeds 30 feet.

In addition, Whisperer's control over the colors and patterns of the flames allows him to produce dazzling and hypnotic displays that captivate his victims and make it difficult to look away or flee - indeed they can even compel the unwary to come to him. The spell's hold is lessened once the flames are in direct contact, simply making the victim's attempts to struggle less coordinated.

In 'death', Whisperer has finally found his own voice. As implied by his name, his telepathic projections produce quiet 'audible' sensations in the minds of those to which he transmits. These psychic 'whispers' are just as selective as his visible manifestation; only those he chooses to speak to can hear him. Their telepathic nature ensures they can always be 'heard' despite any physical sounds in the area. Transmission distance is likewise not a factor in 'audibility.'

Ironically, as a spirit, Whisperer no longer feeds on life force. In fact, he has no longer has any truly physical needs at all. What little spiritual sustenance he requires is easily gleaned from the emotion rich environment of the campus. Whisperer is, however, compelled to seek out the presence and especially the touch of the living. Their warmth and vivacity are a balm for the intense loneliness he has developed since becoming a spirit. He attacks the girls of the campus because rape is what he knows. It was the focus of his physical being and now serves as a link to the past.

Whisperer's method of attack is fairly straightforward. After making himself known to his target and possibly hypnotizing her, he entangles her with a swarm of flaming appendages (tentacles/arms/etc). Appendages will often appear and shift properties as needed: tentacles may suddenly sport arms, hands, mouths or phalli, etc. Really any combination of body parts is possible (imagine a tentacle that ends in a hand with tongues for fingers or a mouth with a decidedly phallic tongue). Action then proceeds as one might expect. Incidentally, another hold-over from Whisperer's living past is his tendancy to ejaculate repeatedly and in great quantity. Though there is absolutely no need for this, the spirit actually produces an ectoplasmic semen that he invariably leaves his victims filled and covered with. Like other parts of his manifestation, only the victim can see or feel the substance.
