He was a solitary being and did not understand “play” and “fun” though Slarr mentioned his version of it he had always assumed that it wasn't for him. Even when he was “tormenting” people it was because of Thudd and rarely did it go beyond chasing someone down.

lily looks at her watch and goes wide eyed at the time only 20 minutes to get ready for class. she tells birch she needs to go.

He is uncertain as to how time pieces worked but had figured hat they told the time in some fashion. He sets down the pitcher of water he had been using as he nods. “Then let's go,” he says holding out an arm to her as they prepare to go. He fully intends to escort her back to the campus after all and on her own she may attract unwanted attention but he could take her most of the way and watch at the jungle's edge for the last bit of it so it was unlikely that anything would happen.
