There had been no danger of blowing her cover, Augustine was focused on blowing his wad but not yet as he was determined to see just how much the blonde could handle. “You're on the cute side, which I would expect for a slave here but … call it a hunch … but there's something different about you I feel.”

If the brunette had any emotion it simply did not appear on her face. Eventually the woman sat up and looked over Celine with an intense stare from her emerald eyes. It was as if she was trying to scan the blonde agent.

The woman introduced herself as Char, and nothing else just simply char. The woman began to stand up not wanting to discuss much about herself as she began to move across the cell. Her eyes did not leave Celine’s frame.

The brunette, moved passed the fake slave and began to look out the cell. It was only when she though they was nobody, that Char began to speak up. Duncan? I not sure I would be interested in any shipment he stole.

Well, I think you may misinterpret why I am here, but the last think I want is to stay in this cell for the rest of my life.

He would learn no more than he could have surmised for himself and if he knew about the stolen shipment he would have been straight forward in questioning her about it so he could recover it for himself she guessed.

“Once you get through the training that is ...” She paused, looking over Celine once again. “But a word of advice, it is easier to get out of this place than a full fledged arena so the longer it takes to reach the right levels that Augustine finds appropriate the better. You can't slack too much tough, you'll either wind up dead or deemed to have no promise in the arena and sold off or assigned some other duty.

“Do enough to stay alive and put on a good show and you might get your wish provided you can keep a low profile when Mercer, excuse me, Lord Mercer, is around.”

She shook her head slightly as if disgusted with that title. “Are there any questions I can answer for you? There's really no orientation. In the morning they'll toss you against one of the beasts, at first you'll be working with someone who's job it is to show you how to put on a good show … most sort of fall into that without much guidance though so the other person is a security blanket at first I guess just until things grow more normal.”

You know that not something I would like to be caught up in. Being sold or traded is not something I would like to have happened to me. It sounds less preferable than be used for…entertainment. She deliberately hung on the last word as if it was something to be despised.

Still if this Char was somehow impressed by Celine’s statement, the woman did not show it. She remained as stone faced as she did when the undercover agent entered the cell. This gladiator would have made a great poker player if she was ever given the chance to play. Not that was ever going to happen in here.

Char looked over the blonde agent once more trying to figure out who she was. She explained that Celine would have to walk the fine line between doing well enough not to be discarded or killed, but enough to not be sent to a full fledged arena, where she would unlikely be able to achieve her freedom. Celine could only nod to show her understanding of how things worked around here and how to surive.

That is good advice I hope I can do well enough to ensure that I stay alive… I am not particularly fond of death.

After a while some have adapted to some of the strategies to beat them but since our handlers don't care if they live or die and a lot of the girls here start off as sloppy gladiatrexes in training we go though a lot of the lesser ones though woe to anyone that squares off against one of the veterans that have been kept.

“Omega is one of them … a final test to see if a girl is ready or not. If you face him you will loose, everyone does, though how long you last is the deciding factor here … last a bit and make the show entertaining to see then they ship you off but if you get overwhelmed early on then they tend to keep you around … seeing that I'm about the only one that has stayed here for any great length of time they haven't quite picked up on this yet and find me more of an annoyance at best or perhaps Augustine likes keeping me around ...” She shrugged.

“They'll probably start you off against the Snots … oozy creatures that are weak individually but they tend to toss you up against several. You will find out your partner tomorrow. It's often a random pairing and while your paired you will train with one another, take meals together and what not. The pairings are made with those that may not have partners though ...” she paused for a moment. “Sometimes there is an odd number where not everyone can be paired up. That person is either the prettiest or ugliest person. If random lots are used the last person is switched with this person. If pretty then she spends time with Augustine until another arrives to be paired up with her. If ugly then she's used as a practice dummy, losses are sometimes acceptable ...”

“So where are you from?”

They w-will get entertainment out of me? It did not matter how she was used in the grand scheme of things from this Lord Mercer’s point of view. So Augustine has the same tastes of the Lord Mercer. Char was right though, give the agent’s appearance she would probably catch the attention of Lord Mercer as soon as he laid eyes on her in almost non-existent outfit.

The topic changed to the beasts. The creatures in question were not really beasts in the strictest sense of the word. Just beings that were not the bright bulbs on the block. Most had been taken from primitive cultures, ones that prized strength above all else. It meant that most attacks were simple powerful affairs and it forced the women to defend themselves. And that meant lots of dead weaker ones though the tougher ones seemed to be far more dangerous. What happens to a girl who loses to one of the veterans. She is not killed is she? Playing up her innocence, Celine noticeable shuttered at she finished her sentence to convey a sense of fear.

Of course the mention of no girl ever defeated Omega, made the shutter at least a bit more real. Guess to face him last, meant that it was determination to see if someone was ready to become a gladiatrix, literally he was the Omega of their testing. Of the girls that had faced him only Char was still around. She had deliberately throwing her fights though she suspected Augustine liked to keep her around. Does he normally throw you into unfair fights or does have a thing for you?

Snots? Those creatures sound digusting….I-I don’t want to face one of those ooze like creatures. She shook her head. At least she would not face such creatures alone. She would be put with a random partner and they would train together. It would be an opportunity to gather more information about this place and the missing agent. At least if there were not an odd number of girls. Oh I have mixed feelings about that. I don’t want to face these beasts no matter how weak or strong they are. A question about Celine past came up, the blonde decided to stick with the truth as it was easier to maintain. She just would give away all of it, however. I am originally from Chicago on Earth. I went to Shokushu High School and after I…graduated…I learned the horrible truth..

The handlers won't allow them that but sort of death or torture … the norm is that they get to have a little fun with the teams that loose to them and matters are broken up after the guards and handlers get their jollies … there's only one way I've seen around hat and that was one of the woman doing sexual favors for some of he guards and handlers to brake things up before it came to that but in the end it didn't work. It did for a little while until they got bored with her and just let it happen. Some of them have even approached some of the newer slaves with such offers of protection, girls that have tasted failure tend to shoot them down."

She “You'll have to face them eventually though if you make the right connections you can save yourself from the worse of it for a little while anyway. Hope you can escape before then though the safest way is to get Augustine's attention making a bargain with a guard or handler is just as effective, of course they'd have to follow orders to. The guards know what's going on and help each other out so they know which girls to spare and why … the other girls know why you're being spared too so those that have been around longer that aren't part of this arrangement harbor some beef about it, well some of them do since things weren't so easy for them. Then there are those hat have been discarded afterward but the girls flow through here pretty quick so you'll probably not have to deal with it much.

Char rubbed her chin as if in thought. “Shokushu? Isn't that the resort planet that privileged aliens get to go too? Yeah, that's the one with the fake school … Earth is lucky, a primitive world that could have easily been enslaved if it was worth the time and effort. Lots of uninhabited planets to get minerals from and closer too though some sadistic species wouldn't mind kicking over an ant hill, or so that would be the equivalent but I believe it is one of the protected planets, there are bunches of them though I don't know why or by whom, various arrangements and alien species, organizations and such. Some just like studying, others collect samples from a particular world for whatever reason and others have actually been responsible for seeding life. I have no idea about the reasons why, never interested me to be honest other then knowing which worlds I was free to operate on.”

I see. It seemed that they were going to force women to entertain people one way or the other no matter what they did.[/color] There was little Celine could do about that except to keep focused at the mission.

Char explained that even in defeat, the women were not killed or tortured physical that lose. No for them will forced to ensure sexual encounters with the creatures. Char had paused a moment as she thought about how she been came to be here. She explained in addition to her past, she had deliberately fighting with sub-par abilities to keep herself here. That is how she had remained in the Mercer’s stable. It must be rough to keep up the act so long. But it seems to be working with you.

Char mentioned that Celine could delay the inevitable fights by trying to make the right connections. The undercover agent did not had to hide her disgust and trying to deal with Augustine again. Let’s just stay I have already had to deal with Augustine once and leave it at that. The thought of the other girls trying to do things against the blonde agent for any perceived relationship with Augustine or any guards. It was understandable that the women would be against a collablerator, however it was going to make it difficult for her to try to find the woman she was here to rescue. It was going to be a difficult choice for Celine on how she was going to proceed. Keeping Augustine entertained would allow her stay longer and attempt to find the missing agent, but at the same time it would alienate her from the other women.

As Char mentioned Shokushu, it gave Celine a new idea. Most women in the ADD were former Shokushu students, though there were notable exceptions like Minerva Rocha. Most likely the agent that Celine also spent some time in Shokushu before she joined the Directorate. Are there any other girls from Shokushu. It would be nice to meet a friend or a fellow student after dealing with…..with all of this. Celine played up the sad expression on her face. These aliens seemed to be a mixed bag, that I really don’t want to be part of. I guess ignorance can truly be bliss at times.

“There are a few,” Char answered her. Vanejin was a common place to get( and expensive) but the young girls were usually selected by the school for their universal appeal and thus they had some entertainment value.

“You'll find two from there I think, sometimes it's tough remembering who's still here and who's not. I don't think they were set aside for deployment to the Arena. Just two this time but there's still a week before they ship them off.”

If asked to explain Char would relay that each month girls and women that were ready were shipped off to the Arena. It was done as a group to cut down on the expenses of space travel rather than doing so individually though she theorized if someone showed remarkable promise an exception might be made to transport just the one person if the returns were going to be great.

“I think Lord Mercer sells some of the Gladiatrixes that are trained up afterward too so if the profit would be there … this is all assumption of course since it's never been done. Getting a former agent for example you can usually get good money for them and would have to spend little on training but since they tend to cost more to get the profit margins just aren't there unless you get one for free I suppose where it's mostly profit.” Char seemed to know economics well enough and while she did not deal with the slave trade herself she knew what they were ultimately worth in a round about way.
