Background: Falling in with the punk-scene in Penobscot county Maine wasn't exactly the easiest way to fit in with the crowd and, truth be told, Katie preferred it that way. Having grown up in the boring suburbs for the largest part of her life, she had longed to break away from everything her parents approved of in the most typical stage of teenage rebellion. The easiest way of doing this was submerging herself in a subculture of angry screaming music. Beginning as a simple method of angering her mother, she eventually fell in love with the music, books, and movies they so loathed. Looking for a way out of rural Maine for good, she chose Shokushu, seeing as they seemed to be the only school willing to offer a surprising free-ride to a middle-class English major from a suburban two-parent home.

Personality: Katie is very intelligent, but it will take quite a bit to get her to show it. She normally keeps to herself, not out of shyness, but more out of a complacent acceptance of her own aloneness. Having been alone for so long, she's rather comfortable with it, and generally doesn't pursue company, though she's quite welcoming to those who make an effort to strike up a conversation first. She's very well read and has an incredibly dry sense of humor, both of which tend to make their way into conversation at any opportunity. In spite of her penchant for following anything with a wry remark, she sincerely cares for her friends and hates to see them in a jam, willing to do anything she can to help out.
