Post Aegir
Name: Aegir, The Whisperer in the Darkness, The Lurker from Beyond, Demon of the Deep, Bringer of Madness
Race: unknown
Type: erroneously catalogued as a demon, more likely of extradimensional origins
Place of Birth: unknown though speculation by the Aztecs placed his origins on the planet between Earth and Mars (now merely an asteroid belt)
Gender: Male
Nationality: unknown
Age: well over 12,000
Height: 7' 2" (though as an invertebrate he can compress size to appear larger or smaller)
Weight: 250
Eye Color: White, pupil less
Skin Color: Mauve
Skin Texture: Smooth and somewhat damp to the touch
Hair: None
Body Build: Slim with somewhat elongated limbs
Tail: No
Tentacles: Several; his each digit of his three fingered hands can extend outward by upwards of 2' while he lacks legs in the traditional sense his torso ending in a mass of eight arm-like tentacles, 4 of which contain suction cups to better grip and grasp objects; 4 tentacles some 18" in length ring his mouth and while primarily used to crack open the craniums of prey are quite prehensile capable of gripping objects or be used in grasping prey
Wings: No
# of Cocks: 3, two smaller 6" appendages about 2" in thickness that in times past before his species evolved to a state where they no longer reproduced sexually would be used to grip the female for they could extract tiny barbs once inserted into the flesh due to their regenerative capabilities such injuries, would be healed quite readily. The primary penis is much longer and thicker being about 16" in length with an approximate thickness of three and a half inches. The end of this penis can open up much like a mouth from which nodes (see below) can be released as well as the redundant sexual fluids that are still a throw back to a time whence the species copulated in such a fashion.

Fighting Style: Aegir's mobility is somewhat slow even in the water. Thus he is unlikely to chase after fleeing prey should it elude him. Nor does he simply camouflage himself and await whatever prey passes by. Normally Aegir uses his psionic ability to lure prey within striking range after he has selected his target of choice it is not unusual for him to implant a reasonable suggestion into the victim's mind luring them to an isolated spot where he can spring his trap. While he can control minds he is loathe in using this technique for it dulls the chemical release of endorphins that, with his heightened mental capabilities, Aegir can sense. While these endorphins provide no nutrients to Aegir they effectively heighten his own sexual responses.

While he does enjoy a good chase now and again he is limited in pursuit having to rely upon illusions and thought projections to trick his prey into thinking that they are safe, going about in circles (so that he may catch up) or dulling their perceptions. More often than not he simply lures victims to an isolated spot and springs upon them using using several of his leg tentacles to grab hold of prey.

Another method Aegir may use is masquerading as a humanoid, something he can pull off from afar in his robes under darkened conditions though due to the difficulty in keeping his legs and tentacles concealed from prying eyes.

Motivation: The further study and experimentation of his subjects is his primary motivation for his actions though it would be a lie to say that he does not derive some form of pleasure in having his prey at his mercy. Having only recently (in relation to how he views time) rediscovered sex Aegir delights in furthering his own research while benefitting from the physical pleasure it brings him in the process.
Psychological Profile and Personality: Aegir can be somewhat aloof. His long lifespan has made him extremely patient and there are few things that can motivate him to quick action. When faced with too much force or resistance Aegir is likely to draw away, plan then seek revenge or readdress a failure rather than stubbornly sticking to a course of action. His corruption (see history below) has tainted him in the eyes of his fellows and while this allows him to understand his victims a bit better that doesn't prevent Aegir from being any less callous. He sees his victims as tools, a means of gaining his revenge and carving out a niche in the universe though little more than that.

While revenge is his primary motivation in doing what he does Aegir is also driven by curiosity and a compulsive need to understand those things that are beyond his comprehension. This obsessive quality has driven him to cause much hardship upon humankind for the sake of seeing the results of his manipulations.

Sexual Oddities: Aegir enjoys pitting his experiments off against one another. He delights in pitting his favorite victim against that of a rival monster's favorite in a wager with the winner taking all. He particularly enjoys feeling needed/worshipped a flaw within his psyche that stems back millennium. As such he has a tendency of delving into the minds of his victims, drawing upon their own thoughts and fantasies and using those against them in a means to be remembered by his victims in some twisted form of being immortalized to them. Of course with his aloof personality there are times where Aegir simply takes what he wants/needs without given thought to his own psychosis.
Human Disguise Form: Normally no, though Aegir is capable of performing minor illusions he tends to use such upon the terrain if only to lure unsuspecting individuals into pitfalls from whence he can set upon them such as making a marsh or bog appear to be flat solid ground.
Clothing: Maroon long sleeved robe.

Special Attributes: Aegir possesses a number of attributes that arose during the genesis of his people. Some of these abilities are defunct, however, as the situations in their evolutionary process have changed. Initially his species had been much like the octopus found in the oceans of earth. Small, perhaps the size of a golf ball they were prey to a great multitude of predators despite their enhanced minds. However the creatures were possessed of an ability they call absorption that would even out the playing field.

Absorption: By devouring the mind of his prey Aegir gains insight into their being. Knowledge and memories are imparted to him as well as an instinctual understanding of the being. In ages past this ability would allow his kind to learn the hunting habits and patterns of those creatures they normally preyed upon and when possible even learn of the patterns of the predators that had preyed upon them. Initially being small and near defenseless Aegir's kind had been easy prey though quite numerous then their numbers have dried up throughout time.

Psionics: Aegir's species has evolved primarily on a mental level, their minds growing more and more complex throughout the ages and while their bodies have adapted gaining somewhat humanoid features, greater size (as the species never stops growing though rate of growth tappers off once they hit 4-5' in length, older specimens growing to far greater sizes due to their longevity). As a result he has in his possession numerous mental abilities. While lacking vocal cords Aegir has developed telepathic abilities allowing him to communicate with any sentient being. He can also implant suggestions into the minds of individuals, usurp control of bodies and direct them as if they were extensions of his own and can divine the future glimpsing into probable outcomes. He is loathe in doing the later simply because divining isn't an exact art, that events of a catalyst can easily be changed if known and the fact that while scrying into the future he is quite vulnerable becoming defenseless for long periods of time as he essentially transports his conscious mind from the here and now into the near or distant future, observes, then returns his mind to his own body a process that can take minutes, hours or days pending what it is that he is divining.

Aegir also possesses some telekinetic ability though he cannot move any object that he normally couldn't lift or move with his own limbs. Though far more useful has been Aegir's ability to peer into minds, extracting information, reading thoughts and even perceiving immediate danger to himself. Aegir can also entrance prey paralyzing them with a form of hypnosis if he can lock gazes with them though Aegir needs to concentrate in maintaining this effect. It is primarily used to halt prey in its tracks so he can close the gap between them before launching his attack.

Venom: In their early days the only means of defense against predators was the venom contained within their bite. Like the blue-ringed octopus, Aegir's saliva contains numerous bacteria that produce venom with no known antidote. The venom acts quickly and can kill within minutes stopping the respiration of those bitten and causing complete paralysis and hypotension (extreme low blood pressure). The skin of the victim turns a blue coloration due to cyanosis though artificial respiration can be employed to save a victim. Those that survive through the first 24 hours of a bite and have their systems flushed of the toxin generally survive though without immediate outside assistance a victim generally dies. This was used by his kind to snare prey and defend against predators though the venom isn't used much nowadays.

Distinguishing features: Aegir possesses several distinguishing features, some now defunct due to evolution, some still practical in nature.

Amphibious: While possessing two gills Aegir also has lungs allowing him to breathe both water and oxygen.

Autophagy: Or jet propulsion as it is better known allows Aegir a short stint of speed while underwater though this uses up quite a bit of energy on his part. In ages past this ability would be used with that of producing an ink cloud to escape from predators though as they evolved and became more and more dangerous the species lost the ability to produce a cloud of ink though retained this ability for quick bursts of movement.

Chromatophores: Aegir possesses cells that allow his skin to change color. Ideal for camouflage back in a time when his kind were hunted this ability had also been used as a means of communication amongst his kind at least until they had developed their telepathic gifting. In ages past the species may have been capable of changing all manners of colors but disuse of this ability has caused it to become less useful over the years. Now Aegir is only capable of taking on a few shades of color; green, yellow, red, orange and brown.

Detachable tentacles: Aegir can detach his leg tentacles much like a lizard capable of detaching its tale. An evolutionary throw back, this ability had been used to distract predators giving them a free meal while the creature made good on its escape. It is now a somewhat redundant ability especially upon attaining adulthood where their full gamut of powers is opened to them. Furthermore it is important to note that detached tentacles cannot be reattached and must be regenerated normally, a process that typically takes two weeks.

Elasticity: Aegir can elongate or compress his limbs with relative ease. Lacking an exoskeleton and bone structure altogether Aegir can squeeze through small cracks and openings. Aegir can also survive in great depths against the pressure of the ocean.

Fast Metabolism: Aegir needs to eat a great deal due to an increased metabolism. Generally while at Shokushu he preys upon marine animals feeding primarily on sharks and other large fish. His great metabolism does allow him to regenerate lost limbs and repair damaged organs at an alarming rate. Provided that his brain (located in his chest cavity) is not destroyed Aegir will regenerate from most damage save for that brought on by electricity or by coral (see weaknesses).

Flame Resistant: Normal fire does no harm to Aegir though he is still susceptible to magical flames at reduced effectiveness.

Nodes: Once a bountiful race Aegir's kind have dwindled over the eons to the point where scarcely any of them are left. While they are responsible for seeding worlds (The Hawaiian creation myth claims that the octopus the last creature from a time of the past, roughly true as they are the very distant predecessors of Aegir's species) it is clear that not many of their brethren attain adulthood. Spawning between their kind is often rough and violent further adding to the complications involved given that fatalities, while exceedingly rare due to their regenerative capabilities, were still possible usually due to other predators feeding on the helpless being before it could recover enough. Evolution had slowly generated an answer to save the species over the passing millennium allowing them to reproduce asexually through a process akin to budding.

Internal cells grow from the surface of the beings head eventually braking off into a small creature resembling an armless miniature version of itself roughly the size of a half dollar coin. In time the thing sprouts limbs and slowly grows though its sentience is somewhat lacking. Nodes are effectively vermin with only basic desires and impulses. They are subservient to their parent, who can, up until their mental maturity, command them. At such a point their minds develop to the stage where they can easily shrug off telepathic attacks like their parent.

Nodes are used in several ways. First and foremost they are tools. Aegir can see through the eyes of his nodes simply by concentrating on a specific one. He can also extend his abilities out through a node effectively using them to boost the signal of his mental capabilities. Nodes can also affect those that they are implanted into stimulating their own psyche potential provided they continue to receive nutrients from their parent. It is unclear whether or not the females of the species are capable of the later without continuous extraction of the nodes themselves though the males can deliver such nutrients to a node implanted in a womb via ejaculation.

As nodes grow they learn complicated tasks, their intellects expand and while they feed they continue to expand their mental capacities until they reach the stage of adolescence a time where they attempt to destroy their parent usually through subterfuge. Aegir has wisely put down his nodes when they have displayed the first signs of advanced intelligence though many of his kin have fallen into a state of complacency coming to rely more and more upon the nodes that serve them in day to day life and not wishing to have to create another only to retrain it. Cagey nodes have managed to trick their parent into thinking that they possessed inferior abilities or intellect until ready to strike.

The death of a parent frees all nodes from servitude though usually not more than six nodes will be in existence at any given time to ensure that nodes don't attempt to team up against a parent. Currently Aegir has just spawned his 5th node housing them within his phallus until the time is necessary to use them in his research. He plans on generating more though the process is time consuming generally taking upwards of a month.

They are essential to his research and once injected into a womb, generally through intercourse, they secure themselves into the wall of the womb. Over the course of a week their tentacles will secure themselves into the womb drawing some basic sustenance directly from their host. The more they feed from their parents, however, the more they can benefit the host tapping into their minds and imparting psionic gifts which gradually increase in potential. The N.I.C.E labs set up around Shokushu limit their imparted potential, however.

Aegir, being a patient being, is a long term planner. Through each embedded node he can gauge the relative strength of his subject while keeping tabs on them should he feel it necessary to speed up his experimentation. In the end such nodes are only destined to perish transforming their subjects in the end though the entire process takes a great many years (Aegir fathoms 10-15 years but he has never seen the process to completion and is only speculating upon its success he is not sure whether or not the process will truly take something he is hoping to find answers to by getting some of his test subjects off of Shokushu upon their graduation furthering his experiments off planet without the hampering effects of the labs hindering his research).

Implanted nodes can be killed through electricity (such as through defibrillation). They can also be removed surgically. In either case Aegir becomes aware of this for he is linked with all of his nodes and becomes aware when one is killed or in a heightened state of distress (such as being forcefully removed from its new home). The latter of which only requires Aegir to focus upon the node to experience through its eyes or draw upon its thoughts to determine what exactly is going on.

Pheromones: This chemical release of scents was once used during mating season to attract members of the opposite sex and heighten their moods. The chemical has no effect upon humans and most monsters are immune to the effect as well. The scent is a rich musky aroma that is sometimes released when Aegir is in an aroused state though to little practical effect.

Superior Vision: In the murky depths of the ocean and in conditions of gloom and darkness Aegir has remarkable vision. Though his eyes are attuned in drawing in light in such conditions they are unaccustomed to dealing with bright light, a glitch perhaps in his species evolution. While in daylight or the equivalent Aegir is nearly blind and such strong light is harmful to his eyes to the point that he seeks to keep clear of it whenever possible.

Behavior: Aegir spends a good deal of time hunting for food given his physical needs of sustaining himself due to his increased metabolism. What free time he has is often spent continuing his research unimpeded.
Capabilities: In addition to the above abilities Aegir possesses a great deal of strength allowing him to rip apart bone with his tentacles. His reflexes and coordination are good due to his compound brain though he is lacking in speed. Being an invertebrate his resistance to pain is somewhat diminished given his rather complex nervous system and lack of protection against attacks.
Weaknesses: allergic reaction to coral even the tinniest of scratches will sicken Aegir for days while ingesting a large quantity of it or being harmed by a coral weapon could prove fatal, cannot regenerate electrical damage, susceptible to piercing/slashing weapons due to lack of exoskeleton/bone structure, can be lulled into a state of rest by soothing melodies
Likes: conquest, domination, hunting, knowledge, soft music.
Dislikes: being oppressed, own kind.

History: For one so old there are few accounts of Aegir's life. Perhaps the earliest confirmed tales detailing anything of this being can be found in the Atlantean sage Eramus Salaius' Codex of Madness written roughly 9500 B.C. Most interestingly Aegir had given the sage the very first exclusive that the world would know speaking to Eramus in the dead of the night, whispering into his mind foul secrets and deeds best forgotten. Why the creature chose to reach out to Eramus had been speculated by the sage as a method of being immortalized for the nightly internal interviews Eramus had been granted seemed to reflect the need to be admired, worshipped even. Though Eramus had gone mad a short while after the completion of the codex, probably upon meeting this entity in the flesh, it is important to note that only one sole copy of the Codex of Madness had ever come to the light of day and that copy is believed to have been destroyed within days of its creation when the great city of Atlantis found a watery grave in the sea, an event that may very well have been contrived by Aegir's own kind in order to keep hold of their secrets.

In the codex it is explained that Aegir comes from a line of ancient ageless beings that exist beyond time and space as we know it. The oldest of demons are but children in comparison to their race whose species according to Aegir predates the cosmos as it is known. How long Aegir has existed is unclear though it is clearly measured in millennium. From whence the being initially sprang from Aegir would not say though it had been evident that the being existed upon earth throughout a good deal of its ancient history amongst chunks of more modern times. What Eramus had determined was that Aegir's kind dwelled upon the earth long before mortal man, that in some ancient upheaval or turmoil perhaps the same turmoil that befell the dinosaurs they left the planet by some means drawing into another dimension that borders and intersects with our own. A place that overlaps our universe though cannot be perceived by us mere mortals.

"This veil has separated us from them but the fabric between dimensions, if it could be called such, is thin and tenuous at best. These ancient beings wait lurking at the threshold between our realm and there own as if waiting for a tare in the cosmic fabric that isolates our two worlds. Searching for a means of return, a method of pulling themselves out of this void to inflict their twisted natures upon us," stated Eramus in his codex.

Eramus explains that Aegir, whose true name is a long string of incomprehensible and unpronounceable (at least for humans) syllables and sounds, was exiled from his kind for some heinous act. To the best of his ability Eramus thinks that this was brought on as an account of their feeding. These beings draw sustenance from minds consuming the brain matter of their victims. One side effect of this feeding, however, is the matter of absorption where upon the creature gains memories and knowledge from the consumed brain. Eramus believes that Aegir traveled between the fabric of worlds as indicated by his fascination by human beings. The sage believes that in feeding upon humans he had been contaminated taking on some of their qualities, becoming less "alien" due to his rather bizarre choice in food.

Eramus writes, "Aegir claims to have seen man rising from the primordial state and while seeing us in a similar light that we would regard a colony of ants the entity did keep a keen eye upon us as we evolved. It is his belief that his kind had stagnated. He believed that they were incapable of further physical evolution even if they could continue to evolve on a purely metaphysical and mental level. It was this trait, this quality that caused the being to become somewhat envious of humans as they developed throughout the years. A trait that would grow into fascination as it later discovered that like cattle we could serve some sort of use to its schemes."

From what Eramus gathered from Aegir was that it believed that the next evolutionary step forward for its own kind needed to go through the human species as their own physical evolution had come to a dead end. "I have seen the rise and fall of empires, the life and death of stars. How could you, a mere newborn in the universe you find yourself in ever hope to understand the cosmetology around you?" Aegir had made it clear that he thought of humans, despite their evolutionary progress, as little more than misguided children. That they needed to be told what to do, directed, managed, made to worship him so that he could show them the true path. Such a god complex seemed unusual in Aegir's kind though this complex was fueled by self centered passions.

Revenge seemed to form the core drive of the creature even if it did appear to Eramus to have a strong desire to be both worshipped and idolized in a fashion. Had not the codex been fashioned for just that purpose? In later chapters of the codex it is important to note that Eramus began to doubt some of the things that he was told not knowing if he was being misled intentionally as a means of providing misinformation. Aegir's drive for vengeance seemed sincere, a response to his exile at the hands of his own kind and no doubt due to the contamination from consuming human brains. A quality that must have been foreign to his people began to surface within him and no doubt his species had to have believed that he had gone mad.

When disaster befell Atlantis Aegir vanished for a number of millennia. Whether imprisoned or caught up in other affairs that drew his attention away from the realm of men cannot clearly be determined. It is most likely that Aegir had been forced from earth having to go into hiding least his own kind catch up to him after the disclosures that he had brought upon humans. Whatever the case the next major contribution that Aegir would make upon our world wouldn't come until roughly 2200 B.C. when, through its ability to usurp and control minds, the being commissioned the building of Stonehenge.

Stonehenge, constructed upon a site of powerful ley lines, would serve Aegir as a rift in the fabric of time and space. Through this spot he and others from his realm could find an entrance into our world twice a year upon the summer and winter equinox. The magical site would come to have a great significance to the druids of the ancient world though such a function was simply an unforeseen circumstance of its construction. Primarily a gateway, the site also served to bolster Aegir's mental capacities allowing him to project his telepathic abilities over a greater distance using the place as a conduit of sorts.

While imprisoned a short few centuries after Stonehenge’s completion, Aegir was able to project his thoughts into the minds of others. For the most part his whisperings drove individuals mad though others became driven to free him heeding the thoughts that overcame them. Even imprisoned Aegir was able to whittle away at the minds he contacted and while it took many centuries in order to free himself he nonetheless did so with such assistance of his tools.

1555 would witness perhaps one of the greatest contributions to mankind that Aegir would make. Again in an effort to immortalize himself in some fashion Aegir worked through a mortal though given the interference he faced some millennia back Aegir wisely kept his actions lower key. It was through the mortal apothecary Michel de Nostradamus that Les Propheties (The Prophecies) would be penned. The Lurker from Beyond whispered its prophetic visions to the man who had been none the wiser that these thoughts were from some alien entity that his mind would not have been capable of understanding.

While there seems to have been some positives from Aegir's time on the earth these were few and far between. The being moved in the shadows keeping hidden as he studied his subjects though he would reach out with a telepathic nudge to stir up trouble. Often this was done to see how mortals would respond to certain stimuli. It was a learning process for while Aegir may have assumed some qualities by the consumption of human gray matter he was still quite alien in motives and thought which caused a lack of understanding with his toys. In 1888 he was responsible for driving Jack the Ripper mad resulting in a string of bloody murders. A short while later (by his standards) in 1914 Aegir's mind control would usurp the body of Gavrilo Princip directing the Bosnian Serb citizen to assassin the Austrian heir Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an event that lead to the first World War.

But Aegir's influence can be seen throughout history for he sees humans as little more than play things that serve his own fiendish purposes. Tools to be used and discarded upon a whim, though always his actions seem to have a purpose even if bizarre or outright strange. To different regions he became different things. To the Aztecs he was Chalchiuhltlatonal, a water god. To the Mayans he was Naun, a god of the mind and consciousness. Enki to the Mesopotamians, and of course Aegir to the Norse, though throughout the years he primarily posed as water deities. Sometimes his veneer would appear benevolent, though such a ruse only served whatever purposes he was striving for at the time.

While normally careful in keeping himself concealed while upon earth (as he sought to keep his presence hidden from his own kind) there was one such incident that would change the direction of his observations and experimentation on humans. Suffice it to say that Aegir stumbled across a pair of lovers engaged in a tryst out in public. Wasting little time Aegir set to devouring the pair for it had been some time since his last feeding. With his sense of taste occurring through the touch of his tentacles like an octopus Aegir would get his first tastes of erotic bliss. The sexual fluids of a woman ... He dispatched with the male quickly, devouring his mind, and then fully engaged his attention upon the woman. Exploring her, tasting her, Aegir came to realize that the instrument of his revenge against his own kind was at hand when he sensed something throughout the ordeal. So ecstatic was he that, on this dark night in 1904 he had even failed to pick up upon another presence, a presence that had come across the grizzly scene witnessing the maddening event. A young Howard Lovecraft would survive the ghoulish nightmare, the night inspiring his later works of the elder god Cthulhu.

More importantly Aegir would discover that he was capable of implanting his nodes into bodies. His telepathic link with them allowed him to determine that while embedded with their subjects they enhanced them stimulating their own mental growth, imparting upon them minute psionic abilities and further stimulating their own evolutionary developments. Fascinated, Aegir allowed the woman to live though he frequently visited her, the extension of his own body the node allowing him to hone in on her location to further delve and explore this discovered avenue. He found in time that the node when receiving more nutrients found in his own semen only enhanced this link with their victim further imparting gifts upon them. Being immune to mental attacks due to his highly developed mind, Aegir had no problems with continuing such experiments seeing a tool to exploit against his own kind. If he could develop a weapon, mold it and use it in his attempts of revenge and conquest he could truly be seen as a god. Suspecting that his victim would ultimately be transformed in the end Aegir was patient with his experimentation finding the process to be quite long and drawn out. Time being irrelevant to one as long lived as he; Aegir was making significant strides in his research when calamity struck. His subject having gone mad upon the initial attack and conceivably more insane with each nightly visit took her life. The node was retrieved, the experiment ended though not without the matter having attracted the attention of his kind. They began closing in on him once more. It was time to flee, to bid his time until he was in a position where he could strike back.

Keeping a low profile for many years Aegir would soon learn of Shokushu, a place where his people were unlikely to find him. A place where he could patiently bid his time, select ideal candidates for his experiments and upon their graduation attempt to get them beyond the influence of the ADD so that he could complete his work spawning those that he invested time and energy into as an elite force, his own personal army in which Aegir could claim his revenge.

OOC: Aegir's research and information about his nodes is primarily story based giving him a motive for his actions. The long incubation time is meant to ensure that the matter isn't an issue for these boards. If anyone is interested in kicking off an rp feel free in dropping me a PM and we can get something started.

(Man, that's some monster! Well-rounded for psionics-based creature, Aegir's history kicks serious literate ass! You'll fit right in! Welcome to SHS!)

"The Bane of Alganimmar, here?!"

The shadows created by the Kali lamp writhed in the face of Magadon's ire. Talons the swirling color of ink dug into the ancient oak of his desk as a shattered mask took from upon his snarling face.

"How could it slip past the wards?" He sat back upon the plush red velvet, mind reeling and racing at the idea of being on the same Plain as the creature that may have been responsible for the disappearance of an infamous Nal'senshi Maestro.

Taking several deep yet rapid breaths, he smoothed his long black hair as the shadows slowed their weaving. He remembered that Alganimmar, in his arrogance, had demanded the creature's servitude and become Aegir's next meal. Magadon would take care not to follow their ex-leader's example.

Already, he began to form plans to make contact with the only being whose race could lay claim to the Nal'senshi's respect.

Post Re: Aegir
Thanks for the warm welcome!

With Aegir I was hoping to combine elements from our own history splicing that with the fantastical to give the character a little more life. For inspiration I took an octopus and evolved it into something alien, bizarre and hopefully unique doing my best to get into the head of the being and envisioning how it would have developped over the eons of its existance. There were a lot of little evolutionary traits I cut out in an effort to be conscise (which obviously didn't go according to plan given the detail) though what I cut out was the nonessential stuff that I can sprinkle in during roleplays more so as flavoring.

I'm glad that everyone has enjoyed the creation so far and can't wait to play him. :)

(Quite correct. I tend to surf through google and any numerous sites that have images of a various sort when stumbling upon this one of the D&D classic monster the illithid or mind flayer as its commonly called. Like so many other images I saved it never knowing when or if I'd need it for a gaming web page or to fashion into a creature counter for a table top game. It became my inspiration when shuffling through my saved images seeing if I had one that fit for Aegir.)

(Well, sure, considering D&D stole er borrowed heavily from various sources. Lord of the Rings, and as evident by the appearance of the illithid itself, Lovecraft. Not that I'm complaining since it did allow me to find an image readily enough  As a bit of humor while working up his background I thought it was fitting that I should mention a chance encounter with the good ol' H.P.)

(And a few other things that had I included in the background would have made more for a novel than a profile  perhaps the two should meet up at the Monster's Hideout at some point.)
