She stood unsteadily, her legs shaking. She wasn't really prepared to walk anywhere at all...

As the other two moved to catch up, they hauled Severity off her feet and dragged her. The taller one patted her cheek lightly and grumbled, as if trying to wake her back up, as they hauled her from the small chamber and back onto the slick steps she'd been traversing before.
"You caahn waaahlk?" asked the leader.

Severity shook her head weakly. "Not now... I need a few minutes," she said, almost inaudibly, as she rested against the bodies of the others.

"We carry, then," said the leader. "Naaht safe here." The other two resettled Severity's arms on their shoulders and grumbled in their alien language as they padded up the stairs behind the first.
"Faaaster. Dangerous. Beast still hungry."

"Beast?" she asked, looking up at him. "What beast?" She really wasn't in the mood to get eaten again today. Or ever.

"Beast thaaht put you in the baahx. Big thing, much teeth." The leader hurried forwards and cast a glance back as something horrid roared deep from down the stairs. "Very hungry. Waahs saving you for later. Hurry!"

She sped up as much as she could on her weakened legs. "Ah. Yes, getting out of here would be a great idea, then," she confirmed softly.

The roaring sounded again, much closer this time, followed by the pounding of what could have been feet on the steps below. The leeches chittered with fear and began running up the passage, hauling Severity along with them.

She sort of simulated running, pushing forcefully against the steps whenever her bare feet could find purchase. Her heart was racing, threatening to beat out of her chest as whatever it was drew closer.

The pounding came faster, like great drums booming in the passageway, as the first natural light Severity had seen in hours, possibly days, appeared far up ahead. A long, red tendril, tapered at its end, snatched around the leg of the tall, jet black creature from around a bend behind the group. The thing shrieked in pain and fear as it was yanked forcibly away to crash against a wall, and the other two things yelled and bolted up the stairs, now only partially supporting the woman.

She cried out softly, adrenaline coursing through her veins and giving her extra strength. "No... not now, I'm so close!" she murmured, racing up the concrete steps.

The tall leech came back into view for a moment before a massive arm crushed its body against the wall it had rebounded off of. The same hulking, toothsome beast from before rounded the corner and roared harshly at the three things fleeing it. The smaller of the creatures dove into a side room, but the leader reached back and pulled hard on Severity's hand and launched her forward, apparently obeying some strange duty it felt to the woman it had so recently abused.

She stiffened slightly, as his limp fingers coiled around her hand. Still, she raced forward, not even looking back.

The extra boost of speed was barely enough. Another terrible shriek sounded behind the girl, followed by a vicious roar and a sickening crunch, but she'd made the last few steps. The door stood ajar a few feet from her face, bleeding light into the hallway, and the beast behind her was slowed in destroying its last victim.

She winced, hearing the sounds beside her, but figuring that they were probably beyond help anyway, burst through the door. "Yes... thank god..." she murmured softly, panting.
