Background: Mia was a child prodigy, having been gifted with total recall. She was born into a modest home, the daughter of a contractor and a french-Canadian homemaker. The simple couple gave their daughter a simple suburban life, and Mia's true potential went unnoticed well into her school years. As a toddler, her parents would trot her out in front of party guests so that she could recite entire acts of Shakespeare. Her memory was a novelty - nothing more. As a preschooler, Mia applied her gifts to video games. She drew quite the following when she was able to master Mario World on a single life, but this renown came only from her classmates.
Mia was a sharp girl. Even as a child she knew no one likes a smarty-pants. She intentionally botched questions on tests so as to appear average. She lied about who she was the entirety of her youth, preferring friends over fame or academic recognition. School was mind numbingly easy and she slacked her was through with minimal effort. She spent her time painting, playing online games, and slacking off with friends.
Her abilities were only recognized for what they were in her final year of high school when her teacher was convinced she had cheated her way through a quiz. The instructor brought both Mia and her parents in and explained that the girl had included a quote nearly 17 lines long on her exam. It has been a careless error on Mia's part. She had simply drifted off, not realizing how long the quote had become. She had a choice: reveal what she was capable of, or risk suspension. Mia didn't really give the matter much thought. She was was too pissed off at the instructor's nerve to call her a cheater in front of her parents. In a bought of teenage rage she stood up and proceeded to yell the entire chapter from which she had drawn the quote.
And that was the end of her pretending to be average. The school insisted she be put into a gifted program immediately. Rather then risk exposing herself for what she was to her friends (some nerdy freak), she excepted the offer to be shipped off to some fancy tropical boarding school on a scholarship. Apparently the eggheads there were interested in her brain. Mia was interested in the beaches. She had always wanted to learn how to surf...
Psychological Profile: Eidetic memory. It's as much a blessing as it is a curse. Mia can recall images, sounds, information and objects in acute detail. Rather then make the most of the gift, she is a chronic underachiever. It pains her to think of herself then anything more then average. She doesn't want to be thought of as a child prodigy. 'Prodigy' is one small step away from 'freak'.
Personality: Mia is very laid back and easy going. She enjoys sitting around, doing a few sketches, heading online. She has yet to encounter much of anything in life that has challenged her. Rules have never done much to keep her in line. Cutting class for random walks to nowhere is routine. She's social, but a girl of few words. She tries to sell herself as a bad girl, but really hasn't done anything illicit outside cutting class and a little graffiti. She hasn't even experimented with drugs or gone further then just messing around a little with boys. When cornered that tough front crumbles to reveal what she truly is: a scared little girl who wants to be liked. She's a typical teenage rebel without a cause. She's too young to have found anything to give a damn about. She'll mouth off to authority but has a good heart buried deep, deep beneath the lazy apathy.
