Background:
Born to a British model and a visiting Japanese businessman, Maiko seemed to have received the best of both of her parents, her mother's looks and her father's intelligence. However, she was also very shy, to the point of freezing up in social situations, and preferred her books to other people, resulting in her developing nearsightedness. Her childhood was a happy one, her parents’ wealth allowed her great liberties, and she was able to attend the best schools in Britain. Shortly before her fifteenth birthday, her father was killed in a car crash and her mother, out of heartbreak, moved with Maiko to Canada. Unfortunately, tragedy struck again, during her graduation ceremony, her mother suffered a fatal heart attack. Left on her own, but with her parents' not insignificant estates left to her, Maiko decided to throw herself into her studies and enrolled in the best college that was the furthest from either of her homes she could find, Shokushu.
Personality:
Maiko is shy, almost to the point of chronic social anxiety. The exception is when she is involved in her work, at which point she will focus on it to the exclusion of all else, only significant stimuli will break her out of one of her "work trances".
