Background: Tylna comes from a species of indigenous, sentient tree-dwelling mammals, prolifically indigenous to the jungles and forests of Tarris IV. Subsisting primarily on a foraged diet of fruits and plants, the Ryjel have gathered for millenia in clans throughout the heavily forested area of the planet, prescribing to a mostly peaceful religious philosophy of primitive animism. However, the last few centuries have seen a major upheaval for the species. The last three hundred years have signalled a rapid encroachment by the expansionist Tylek Republic, a race of reptilian intergalactic merchants. Formerly relegated to the lowlands and plains, a vast boom in population and the rapid deterioration of the resources in their natural habitat has seen the Tylek's expanding into the rain forests. The results have been devastating for Tylna's species, who are exempt from citizenship and basic rights. It is worse in the wilderness, where a lack of centralized law places little oversight on the local Tylek magistrates, who frequently capture an sell entire communities into slave labor and prostitution. As a result, the last couple of centuries have seen a mass exodus of Ryjel into the cities, where the presence of intergalactic trade forces a modicum of civility. Here, Tylek's subsist largely in abject poverty as manual laborers, pickpockets, and beggars.

Tylna was one such immigrant, surviving as a thief in a larger metropolis of Tarris. As an adolescent, she evaded the local constabulary by stowing away on the ship Razortooth, belonging to an all-female crew of intergalactic pirates. Upon discovery, she was adopted as the personal pet and plaything of the ship's captain. Initially regarded by the crew as little more than an adored mascotte, her insatiable curiousity soon found her use as an assistant navigator and work engineer on the ship. She was eventually accepted as a member of the crew, and accompanied the other pirates on raids. When the Razortooth was finally captured by galactic sheriff patrol ship, she managed to escape by hiding in the ventilation of the ship and sneaking ou when the ship was impounded at a nearby planet.

Since then, Tylna has survived hand-to-mouth as a pickpocket and burglar. It has been a gypsy life, mixing in amongst populated areas and then fleeing by chartered ship or stowing away when the heat becomes too intense. Warrants remain in effect for Tylna in a number of star systems, and the sparseness of her species beyond the planet of Tarris makes her conspicuous to local authorities.

Physiology: Small and nimble, Tylna's alien physiology lends her an admirable scale of acrobatic capability. Razor claws provide moderate natural self defense but are primarily used for scaling surfaces. This has served her capably in her capacity as an urban burglar. An ADD agent remarked to her superior - after liberating Tylna from local ruffians - that with proper training, the girl's natural talents could lend remarkably well to work as either a scout/infiltrator or an assassin. Shortly thereafter, she found her apartment had been raided of belongings and the young Ryjel had disappeared from her custody. The Ryjel's natural habitat are forest canopies, and she still prefers high surfaces, due to natural predilection and the security higher vantage points tend to offer. Her long, prehensile tail can support her weight for swinging or hanging and is exceedingly dextrous, able to grip and manipulate objects with nearly the skill of her digits.

Personality: Hyperactive and easily distracted, Tylna is frequently mistaken as stupid. This is a dangerous mistake. Although simple in motivation, she is not simple in mind, and exhibits a surprising amount of cunning and wit. However, she largely measures motives beyond mere survival and comfort. Her concerns are largely constrained to food first, shelter second, and pretty objects of bright colors or shiny surfaces last. She is a compulsive pack rat. In the company of strangers she is innately skittish and defensive, but those that she becomes comfortable with find her warmly (if somewhat obnoxiously) affectionate and protective.

Clothing: Ryjel culture foregoes clothing, but in order to fit in with the various cultures, Tylna has seen a need to adopt it in the name of civilization. Aleady furred, she prefers a breezy and colorful ensemble: primarily velvets, silks, and scarfs complemented with an array of garish and flashy cheap jewelry. She is almost always seen wearing a metal collar, a technological wonder that translates her native tongue into local language and dialect based on her location.

:D Thank you both! I think she'll be a fun change of pace from my tough girls, maybe in the slave pens.
