“Yes then Miss Beckett, we can start by getting the simple things out of the way… I’ll need your full name, gender, age…” The school campus advisor, a rather detached middle aged woman, began, clearly not paying attention. She’d probably done this a hundred times before today.

“You… just said half that stuff.” Shannon interrupted.

“…yes, but we need to hear it from you, for legal purposes.” The now clearly annoyed advisor countered.

Shannon sat up straight in the highly uncomfortable desk chair. “Psh, fine… Shannon Beckett, age 18… female, obviously.” She spat back, her voice brash and filled with the fire of youth and rebellion.

“And you’re from…?” The faculty asked simply.

“Albany, New Yawk.” She grinned, faking an accent that was not her own.

“Tell me a bit about your history Miss Beckett, your childhood, your schooling, social life… don’t worry, you won’t be judged for it, we just like to get a feel for our students to give them a more… personal… experience here at Shokushu.” She explained, lingering a bit too long on the word ‘personal’.

The fiery haired girl seemed reluctant to reply… despite her previous forwardness, she didn’t seem to wish to talk about her past. “Ah… well… born and raised in Albany, but my parents were both from Ireland… fresh off a boat. Guess my dad was fleeing some kinda trouble over there, maybe…” She paused, the phrase finishing itself in her head… with the IRA. “I dunno why really. Uhm… really normal schooling, about average I’m sorry to say in high school… look, could we maybe talk about this… another time? Or not at all?” She asked, a definite Irish accent sneaking into her voice as she grew nervous.

“I assure you, this is all confidential… please continue Miss Beckett.”

“Right… look then, it’s like this… my parents, they didn’t have a lot of money.. I didn’t plan on going to college so I was usually out working or doing things I shouldn’t be when I shoulda been studying, ya know? I’m a different person now… I have this scholarship, and I’m gonna make something of myself.” She nods, her accent slowly disappearing again as she regains her confidence towards the end of her speech.

“I suppose that’s good enough Miss Beckett, thanks for sharing.”
