Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
Aegir had a few twists set up, and while this wasn't a big reveal it would certainly set it up later. He felt she would appreciate thing a litle better for it if it wasn't so linear. He had several things designed, used fictional characters as it they were real (though so far off screen) and set matters on the heels of the Ripper murders leading to the belief that these girls were being killed by a vampire after seeing those gresmome murders.

While he did not alter her memories for she desired for him not to play around with her head it was an easy enough matter for him to suppress her thoughts, in part being drawn into matters. He eased up a little with her memories but they weren't her's. She simply assumed they were.

Lettie Harper? The name of her mother's friend that past years back from cancer. He let the memory of the name return and thus she assumed it was her own.

Sean gazed at her as Lettie dropped her gaze and made the confess ... well she had no idea what was going on yet so it really had been impressions and guesses at this stage.

"I knew about this already, well in part? Remember when I told you that your weren't a relative? I looked at charts very similar to this, names weren't cross off or numbered but yours wasn't evn on the charts. This is a forgery but why? Who would care if you were part of the family or not unless your running some sort of scham on the family, a fake inheritence claim, a means f getting close?"

"I don't know, Sir." She replied dejectedly. "If this is some scheme that I cooked up then Heaven must be punishing me for it now. I can't even remember my real name." Tear began to fill her eyes now. If she had had some hand in these horrible murders then she would never forgive herself. "I am afraid I can't shed any further light on this mystery, myself. All I can tell you is that this conspiracy seems to be larger than just me. The man who gave me the note that sent us here was working for someone else. He told me that we knew each other very well and that his master had taken an interest in me. He didn't tell me what their plans were, only that they were close to being achieved."

"Rico, the man who take the place of your man tonight, didn't tell me anything else though..." She thought of the genuine look of concern on his face after she'd had her encounter with the Skull mask man. "He didn't seem to know that I had been approached until I told him. He might not be a part of there group but he clearly has some nefarious purpose of his own." She did not tell him about their interlude in the bathroom because it was too embarrassing but she took that, along with the knowledge that the man who was supposed to have guarded her was dead, as evidence that Rico was dangerous no matter what his part in all this. "I don't know what else I can tell you... The only connection I can see to all these players is me but I haven't a clue why. If I'm not a true Harper and the police are clearly aware of this then there is no way I can inherit now. If that is the reasoning behind these murders then they should stop now..." She looked to the check the clock on the mantle again. "Perhaps you should check and see if your other men had any luck looking Stephanie Harper."

Sean listened, his own thoughts and theories dancing in his head as he gazed at her. So shaken, tear filled eyes and the way she was dressed - he wouldn't admit that a part of him thought she looked so damn sexy then but he dismissed it. She could be involved in matters after all and didn't need to complicate the mix any.

He patted the back of her hand reassuringly. He asked of her earliest memory, dwelled upon it and wondered if she had seen the grisly scene and sort of checked out. No, she went back there and well, he showed up a short while later and the culprit fled.

Sean weaved some partial theories but nothing he was willing to stand by as of yet, He nodded some though the situation was still a bit confusing as he tried to connect the dots, He even entertained the fact that Skull Mask and Hearts might have known each other and were only pretending that the didn't really know the other guy, but then why take the message back? Show her, let her memorize it then have it destroyed by a third party? Elaborate but possible and what exactly was her connection with Skull Mask> He knew her, how? From where?

"Well, we can find out who you are easy enough. We can run your prints, if anything comes up then we'll know about your record at least." Finger prints? Did they even exist in this time frame but Aegir was mixing the real and unreal so it stood to reckon he could make a few changes for this story to make things easier and lead from point A to B easier.

"But until we know just who you are we'll let the others worry about the case and try to figure out who you are, it seems connected to the case in some way so once we figure that out hopefully things become easier to deal with."

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
Lettie was a little apprehensive about having her finger prints taken. What if she was a criminal? Wouldn't Sean be obligated to arrest her if it were discovered that she had committed a crime. But then maybe she should be locked up. People could be dying because of her. Besides, what other choice did she have? At least this way she'd have a better idea of who she was or wasn't if the search turned up nothing. It would reassure her to know whether or not she was a known criminal at any rate. "Yes, I agree that that is probably the best course of action. I am tired of having rogues and villains know more about me than I do. I will go with you to the station and let you take my prints."

((It is a little early for police use of fingerprinting but, like you said, its a dream. It doesn't need to be completely historically accurate. I had to look up the date fingerprinting became an accepted practice so I think its safe to say Nell didn't know the date either so she wouldn't question it. She prefers fiction to history anyway.))

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
(yeah, I figured with the prints though it's easier for a few things and since it isn't real I can change things a little or a lot in some case like creating worlds for our last RPs ;))

So with her heart hammering away at the unknown Bill took the prints. Then seeing how it was ages before a criminal data base had been formed or even computers invented for that matter. Bill had to shuffle through cards with other prints on them, checking the whirls and patterns.

It sort of was nerve wracking knowing that if there were prints she would have been guilty of having done something at least at one stage, but what if they were looking for her now? She ended up falling asleep, it was late when they started but Bill stayed a bit longer as he was interested in what the other detectives found tonight.

Lettie was woken, it was rather convient that Sean had a couch in his office where she crashed after the men had guide her to it, a jacket served as her blanket and she was stirred by Sean.

The office door was closed and he held a card in his hand, probably the card with the matching prints. "Alright, Lettie, we ran the prints and got a few things ...." he paused, ensuring that she was fully awake before continuing.

:Your surname is Moran. Lettie Moran and as best as I can tell you must have been running some sort of schame but that's pure speculation. You've been picked up a few times in the past, mostly minor stuff, larceny, you died some time for the theft of a few things and have been the chief suspect in other cases but there was no evidence to convict you on anything."

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
Lettie was groggy when Sean first woke her but she was fully awake when she saw the card in his hands. He'd found something. She sat up and prepared herself for the worst. Her name was Lettie Moran... At least she'd gotten her first name right. Apparently she'd been a thief, not the worse thing she could be. Had she worked her way up to con woman? "What else do your files say about me? Do I have any relatives or..." She thought of Skull man again. "Any known accomplices?"

She hoped the answer to that question was 'no'. She wanted to believe she hadn't been that terrible a person as to ally herself with possible murderers. She wasn't sure though. If she had been running an inheritance scam then surely someone would have to die but if that had been the case wouldn't it have be wiser to try to seduce a rich man who was already at death's door. Why try to represent herself as a long last relative in such a large family with no less than six healthy women who would have to die before she saw any money? And why kill them in such a flashy way? Gruesome vampiric murders in an area of London already famous for horrendous deaths. Surely that would have attracted too much attention and risk exposing her cover.

She frowned. No, the more she thought about it the less sense it made. "Something isn't right though... Why was I pretending to be a member of the Harper family. An inheritance scam doesn't seem right with the patterns of murders. Unless the murders weren't a part of my plans... But then, why is someone murdering Harper women?" And what did it have to do with her? Had she just been at the wrong place at the wrong time? Did someone have a vendetta against the Harper family and she was just unlucky enough to be trying to con this family right when that person finally decided to act upon it? Or was she a pawn in a much bigger game? Was someone using her to get to the Harper women? She had been on the street wear Elaine was murdered and she had a vague memory of talking with the woman just prior to the murder...

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
The more she learned, the less sense things made rather than clearing them up. She thought of various possibilities and theories where things were connected, where they weren't and tried to determine if other avenues were easier options. She doubted that if she was willing to de-fraud people she may have been inclined to seduce wealthy men and get a portion of their wealth ... far easier than being involved in six murders and tryto infiltrate a family unless her objectives had been different altogether and couldn't have been accomplished in such a usual fashion, which only begged the question what was so imortant?

All this fluttered through her mind in about three seconds, her question asked, Sean was silent as he looked upon her in that moment. "Yes, an older brother by the name of Sebastain. There's an extensive write up about him, he was in the military, even achieved the rank of colonel but got involved with criminal organizations shortly before. He grew up on the streets with you and early on he helped you out. No known accomplices lately, just memos that hint of the possibilities of you having graduated to stealing jewelry and the like. Of course their's no real evidence.

"Oh, and good news! There are no warrants for you either so I don;t have to arrest you. Last time I checked we didn't lock people up on suspicion but rather evidence. There is a last known address that has you staying here in White Chapel too."

The mystery seemed to be growing deeper rather than making any more sense but at least she wasn't a murerer. Word was still out whether or not she was an accomplice to it though she (hopeful) asn't. So was Skull Mask her brother? She entertained that thought for a moment, still had to figure that out with certainty and had to figure out who this Rico had been as well.

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
If Skull man was her brother it would explain why he had not seemed interested in her object of sexual desire at the party. But if he was her brother then he wasn't a warmhearted one. Surely a good brother would not have greeted her so coldly. She hoped that he wasn't Sebastian. She hoped this brother who supposed helped raise her was not involved with this affair at all. It was bad enough that she was mixed up in it. She was relieved to hear that there weren't any warrants out for her arrest at present, even if that didn't necessarily mean she wasn't guilty of any crimes.

Sullivan said she had address in White Chapel. "I guess the next logical step then is to check out the address you have listed for me." She was nervous about what they might find their. The trip might jog her memories into coming back or, at the very least, it would give her some insight into the person she had been. The risk was that they might discover she really was a party to these dreadful crimes but it was a risk they'd have to take. "It might hold the key to how I got involved in all this."

"That it may, that it may," it was obvious that he was stilll caught up in his own thoughts as he pondered over recent developments. Finally he walked over to the coat rack got his brown trench coat and checked the pocket for keys. He had not considered the obvious that the apartment could be all locked up but he wa too tired to consider that then and there, It was past midnight and as far as he knew his men had been incapable of finding Steph. He ensured that she was ready, drove her down to a simple apartment and when they discovered that it was unlocked Sullivan took point, entering the house first and sweeping it for signs of intruders, which he found none and thus she was able to come inside as he was holstering his revolver.

It was while he was doing that which he commented. "Two bedroom place ... I;m going to look around some, do you mind?" He was asking her permission first, and that's when she noticed it, the white envelop on the counter that had flowing scriot written on it 'Lettie'.

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
Lettie had been about to tell Sullivan that she'd take him around, afraid of what discoveries he might make without her, when her eyes suddenly landed on the envelope with her name on it. A sense of unease came over her then. Someone had been in her apartment while she was running around with the police. She'd, of course, considered that the other players in this mystery undoubtedly knew where she lived but she did not like knowing they could get inside it so easily. She wanted to read the note and see who had been here but she was a little afraid to do so with Sullivan there in the room with her. If the note was from Rico then its contents might be rather embarrassing and she'd rather not have to explain such things to the detective.

"No, I don't mind. Go ahead and look around." If she'd foolishly left out incriminating evidence then she deserved to get in trouble for it. She waited until Sullivan disappeared into one of the other room before she hastily picked up the envelope and tore it open to read its contents.

Once he had gone to turn on some lights and poke around for clues Lettie found herself taring opened the n=envelop. Her bright eyes scrolled it as she read, the lettering nice and neat and slanted, she had seen it earlier that day at Baker's Street on the family tree.

Lettie,

Your assistance is required for the task at hand. You have come with high praise from my sister Stephanie. She has faked your alias and included you on the family tree so that you can move about more freely.

Helena has the Blessings of Orion and we would like for you to acquire it. Meet with me tonight and I will give you all the details you need. If you accept these terms meet me at 11 tonight near the Flag Stone Tavern. If you are unable or unwilling to take up the job just seal this up in the envelop I've provided and slio it into my own or Stephanie's mailbox.

Yours,
Elaine

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
The note wasn't as bad as she feared. In fact, it was quite the opposite. This letter proved she wasn't infiltrating the Harper family for the murderers. Elaine, the most recent victim, and Stephanie Harper were the ones who had set her up with this identity though their reason for doing so was clearly not pure. But it seems all they intended was for her to steal the "Blessing of Orion", whatever that was, and not for anyone to get hurt. She regarded the letter thoughtfully for a moment before deciding she should share it with Sullivan. The letter was only proof that she'd been offered the job, not that she'd accepted it so she couldn't be charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.

"Detective Sullivan," She called as she followed him into the back room. "I think I have found something you should take a look at. I don't know what this has to do with the murders, if anything, but it explains why my name suddenly appeared in the Harper family records." She held the letter out for him to exam. "I found it in an envelope sitting on my kitchen counter."

Post Re: Treats (for Nell)
Another thing too was that the letter was sealed, meaning that she had intended to pass up on the job for whatever reason but didn't get the message delivered in time, perhaps that's why she remembered seeing Elaine the night she was killed maybe she saw her to tell her that she wasn't going to take the job. As good as all this sounded at first she made a realization after she had already called Sean back who was already half way through the letter by that stage.

What if she passed up on the job because of her brother? Perhaps she was still tied to this after all though instead of being just a thief she was a helping a murderer. Skull Mask, who she believed to be Sebastain, said that it was her next assignment when he gave her the piece of paper with the name and address on it ... then again, Stephanie wasn't there! Perhaps there was something at that location belonging to her that Lettie had to steal. Things were so friggin complicated! And certainly Aegir had intended to have webs inside webs, keeping her guessing for as long as possible.

Fortunately Sullivan was thinking of those mattters, perhaps his wit had dulled a little because he was tired or perhaps he was overlooking a few details, maybe even deliberately either to lure her into a false sense of security before he could draw her out and arrest her on something or ...

Sullivan smiled as he looked at her. "The tavern in question is closing in less than an hour, if we hurry we could make it. Maybe someone saw something or we can get a start on it tomorrow if you'd prefer. It's late but this letter seems good right? You opened it, where's the envelop?"

He took that from her, examined it to make sure that the enveloped had been sealed and she ripped it open rather than being stuffed in their hastily of course he wasn't in the room with her and she could have stuck the ppiece of evidence she found in the envelop, sealed it, then opened it.

But he was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt her, maybe it was her stunning garments, maybe it was because he just had a sense that she wasn't all that bad, maybe because he found her attractive, which could only serve to mess with an investigation! Thus far he handled himself like a professional though as he stuck the envelop in his inside jacket pocket.

"I was getting worried there for a moment, glad it was a false alarm."

"Me too," Lettie reply with her best charming smile and wished she felt as relieved as she pretended to be. She needed to stop second guessing herself but it was hard when there were still so many things unclear to her. She gave the room a sweeping glance while she considered what she should do next. She still wanted to have a good look around the apartment. There was still a good possibility that she might be about to learn more about herself but she wasn't as sure she wanted Sullivan there while she did it anymore. "You can go onto the tavern if you like. I think I'm finished for the night. It has been a long and trying day and I think it might do me some good to sleep in my own bed, now that I know I have one."

She thought about the second bedroom and added with an effect of "female weakness" for Sullivan's benefit, "Perhaps you could call someone to watch the street entrance before you go though. I'm afraid I don't know who all has a key to this place." He would have been suspicious if she didn't act a tiny bit nervous but, honestly, she wasn't planning on doing much sleeping. (And when she did she fully planned to barricade herself in her room.) Part of her even hoped someone else did try to show up tonight, be it her brother or who ever. She'd gladly give him a piece of her mind or a piece of her fireplace poker depending on who it was. Still, a police presents on the street might not be a terrible idea. Just in case she was wrong about not being one of the murderers possible targets. "You can come pick me up in the morning and we can compare notes. Maybe staying here when help some of my memories return and you can tell me if your men ever found Stephanie."

All that sounded reasonable and he called Bill to have a car come down. He would wait until it arrived though, concerned about her safety. Either she acted the part real well or he was concerned about her well being throughout the course of the night. He wondered about the second bedroom though when he peaked into it, it was virtually bare, what you'd expect out of a guest room. There was no sense of anyone living in it, no pictures or other effects other than a tool box stored in the corner of the room.

Sullivan could understand about her being tired. He did not have the luxury of having a nap like here aned smiled upon her briefly. "I understand your tired, I am too and it's best if we check out the bar tomorrow. I'll be down around 10 after breakfast, is that alright? Blood?

Blood she guest given her discovery in the closet of that room, two latex masks on the top shelf both of which she recognized. One the bat-like mask from the night of the murders, the other the Skull Mask from the masquerade. What was going on? Had her brother been the killer? Had he been staying here? Who was Rico then?

It was around that time that she heard the front door of the apartment open. She had locked it behind Sullivan so whoever entered now had a key. It was late so who would be arriving now?
