“He was in there?” Sean gazed at the flames again then looked back at her. “But there's no sense in taking unnecessary risks here.”

Regretfully it was not Bill that was watching her tonight. His medical knowledge was slightly better than everyone elses at least amongst the cops so he had been assigned among others of course to watch after Helena in case she woke up.

Rodgers, a young officer had been assigned to her. He was pleasant but didn't speak much though retired to his room leaving her to her own for the time being and doing whatever he was doing there.

A short time later ther had been a knock at the door. “Lettie? May I enter?” Asked a familiar voice from the other side. It was Sean of course obviously checking on her after getting back from the hospital and Helena.

Oh blast! Lettie thought when she heard Sean and the door. She'd been sitting at the writing desk trying to fumble through her goodbye letter to the detective and now, as if summoned by her very thoughts of him, the man himself appeared. "Just a moment!" She called as she hurriedly crumpled up her latest attempt and tossed it into the bin beside the desk with a dozen others. She rose and answered the door.

She was fully dressed but not in the same attire as earlier. She'd been quick to hide any evidence of the fatal battle between her and Sebastian. Her blood stained clothed were tucked safely away under her bed. The only thing suspicious about her now was that she was not dressed for bed. Indeed, she had not intended to go to bed. She had planned to leave as soon as she'd finished her letter to Sean and she was certain Rogers was asleep. Sean being here now put a major chink in her plans. "Sean, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the hospital with Helena?"

“Helena's alright. She's stable and there's not much anyone can do for her but wait until she wakes up. There are plenty of officers there incase there is some sort of situation though.” He stated, not even questioning her attire. It made sense that she would change after the fire and he assumed that she had not dressed for bed.

Still out of the room he did not yet see the pile of crumpled letters by the desk.

“I just came to see that everything was going alright. How's the memory, any better since last evening?” He probably wanted to say something else, she could see it in his eyes as he gazed at her but thus far it was unsaid.

Lettie tarried at the doorway, knowing it would be dangerous to invite him in. Not because she was afraid of him but because she was afraid that the longer he stayed the harder it would be to make him leave. She should not tempt fate. It was better to get rid of him quickly and not lead him on.

His question about her memory caught her of guard though. She'd forgotten that he was still not privy to the information Rico had give her about the drug Sebastian had used on her. She know the effects would wear off eventually and had given it no further thought. It wasn't as though memories of her old life would do her much good anymore anyway. Of course, he didn't know any of that. He still thought she was a lost mortal woman struggling to put her life back together.

She sighed and retreated back to sit on the bed, giving up on barring him entrance. He was worried about her and he deserved more than a brief answer and a cool dismissal. "Honestly, I'm not sure I want to remember anymore. I don't think my life before all this was a very happy one. Maybe forgetting it is really a blessing. The old me is dead and now I can start over fresh."

He came into the room as she sat. The papers behind hi so he wouldnt see them until ht turned around of course Currently he regarded her then nodded at her answer.

“Then it is a small blessing, a chance to make a fresh start I suppose I should arrest you for past crimes but I don't care about them. They were inor anyway and if you are to have a fresh start of things it does help if you have someone suppressing certain information coming to light.”

He took her hand, patted the back of it. “Well, at least you don't have to chance your name. They pulled out a charred body from the warehouse, any idea of who it is?”

She smiled at his kind words and kinder offer to conceal her past sins. Then she felt immediately guilty again because she knew she would hurt him when she suddenly disappeared. She shot a forlorned look at the waste paper bin and hated herself. Sean deserved better than a hastily written goodbye on hotel stationary. She should come clean now. Explain to him why there was no chance, not future for them as a couple but she was a coward.

When he brought up the body they had found she lept at the excuse to postpone the things she needed to say to him. "I imagine it was Sebastian's body. I told you he had been in the building when it caught fire. I had intended to make an official report at the station in the morning..." She lied, she had no intention of being here in the morning. Still she had entertained the idea of explaining what had happen in her letter to Sean. In a couple of her earlier drafts she'd even tried to explain the vampire part to him but had eventually given up on that idea. He won't believe her anyway. "He was still hurt from his prior injuries... And I don't thing he expected Helena to put up so much of a fight. Last time a saw him he was sprawled out on the floor of the warehouse and then the ceiling collapsed and I had to run to escape the blaze myself..."

“I assumed the body was Sebastain's but I was just making one hundred precent sure first.”

Sean was unaware of what Lettie was thinking of course as a hand of his fell to the back of her own, his head turning so that he could better face her in that moment.

“What do you propose to do now? Sebastain is dead, your past life buried and a fresh start ahead of you with the sky being the limit now rather than being bogged down by a rather colored past?”

Lettie looked away from him, finding his gaze to sincere and caring. "I don't know..." She attempted to pull her hand out from under his, gently though because she really didn't want to hurt him. "Find a job, a new place to live. I don't think I can go back to living in my old apartment. Maybe... a change of scenery is in order." She meant out of the London. Maybe if she hinted that she didn't intend to stay, Sean would get the message and not get his hopes up about her anymore.

He regarded her for a moment then shook his head a little. “Just don't go too far. I can only suppress the records while you are in London or one of the nearby suburbs. I figured that you would desire to move out of the old place but there are options there ...”

Sean paused, gave it some thought and figured that he was being too forward but still …

“You are welcome to move into my place until you get setled ...” If she got setled he meant of course though that was implied. He smiled at her briefly then straightened his posture.

“Comsider it, Lettie, sleep on it.”

He turned as if to go, saw all the crumbled papers and paused for a second then turned back to her. “You're not staying?”

He regarded her for a moment then shook his head a little. “Just don't go too far. I can only suppress the records while you are in London or one of the nearby suburbs. I figured that you would desire to move out of the old place but there are options there ...”

Sean paused, gave it some thought and figured that he was being too forward but still …

“You are welcome to move into my place until you get setled ...” If she got setled he meant of course though that was implied. He smiled at her briefly then straightened his posture.

He turned as if to go, saw all the crumbled papers and paused for a second then turned back to her. “You're not staying?”

Lettie had been too busy chewing her bottom lip and mulling over her guilty conscience to follow Sean to the door. She was still debating whether she should tell him the truth or not. Once he was gone it would be too late. She missed his glancing to the waste paper bin and only returned his gaze when he stopped to ask his question. She blinked at him bemusedly. "I already told you, I was considering moving..." She thought he was still talking about their earlier conversation. She didn't understand why he was asking her about it again and why he'd sounded so strange when he'd said it. It was more like an accusation than a question...

It had been his job to be observant. He had thought … no hoped she would stay. He made a motion with his head towards the crumbled papers indicating that she was struggling with writing something though she seemed caught up in their earlier converstaion then following a whole new one.

“When were you planning on telling me, Lettie?” He sighed then looked back. “You don't have to do this. I ...” he paused looking back briefly at that mess then back to her. “I don't want you to go.”

There. He said it, though he hardly expected it to make a difference it would not be a factor if he said nothing, however.

Lettie did see where his eyes traveled this time and she quickly stood up, think at first to hide the evidence but stopped herself. It was too late. He'd already seen the discarded letters. "Oh Sean, I'm sorry... I was going to tell you... I just didn't know how. I can't stay. Even if I wanted to I couldn't. It's too dangerous... People would get hurt. You would get hurt." She turned to start gathering her belongings. She had to get out of here as quickly as possible. Before he started asking her anymore questions. "I don't wish to be the cause of anymore pain. It is best if I leave now before that happens."

He took hold of her arm and gazed into her eyes.

“I'd be hurt moe if you left, Lettie. Stay. Please.” He watched her for a moment, releasing her arm so she could do what she willed though at the same time he did that he stepped forward, hands going to her hips, eyes transfixed on her ow.

“Please ...”

And yet again he was moving in to press his lips back against her own as he had done so earlier that day.

"No, you won't. Believe me. You'll survive." She insisted then stayed him with one hand on his shoulder when he tried to kiss her again, gently. "Sean please..." She pleaded with both her eyes and her words. "You are making this harder than it already is. I don't want to hurt you." She hoped her words would reach him, deter him from pursuing this reckless path. He didn't understand her stakes and she didn't know how she would begin to explain them to him. Especially with him standing so close, confusing her emotions.
